...and cannot say enough great things about it!
First of all: Ricky is the greatest guy, so much fun to be taught by him!
I am surprised at how awesome Skype works, it's a serious opportunity for pedal steel lessons, no matter where you are. Once we had set up our cams and mics right, it felt almost like el maestro was sitting over here in my room. Only that I couldn't shake hands with him. On the other side he couldn't smack my hands when I made mistakes! 
The coolest thing about Skype is you can stay at home where your steel is already set up. In my case Ricky was 5155 miles away!

So, if you looking for lessons but don't have an instructor around, you should definitely consider Skype lessons...

Thanks so much Ollie and I really had a great time working with you. It was like you said; almost like we were sitting across from each other in my room; even to the point where I did reach at the computer monitor to grab and manipulate your hand....I had to laugh....ha.
I really dig teaching and there just isn't enough Teachers to go around; so I look forward to the opportunity to help ANYONE work on their Steel guitar progression.

| I am not much into the computer thing myself, but I did take a few in-person lessons with Ricky in the past. I have to say that after teaching me how to tune the guitar to itself and then a BRUTAL but rewarding lesson in intonation, I am a better player as a result of having taken lessons with him. I dont know what Skype lessons cost, but I am sure its well worth the money to spend some time with a teacher like Ricky. There are a lot of good pickers around here in Texas, but a good teacher is totally different topic all together. In my opinion, Ricky is not only a top notch player but is also a top notch teacher. |

Oliver, what kind of Internet link do you have? I have DSL with a 1.5 Mbit download speed and a 256 kbit upload speed. Skype video calls suffer from frequent stalls. I am intrigued by the idea of Skype lessons, but I suspect they would just be frustrating because of the poor Skype performance that I experience. How do teachers who offer Skype lessons deal with that problem?

Thanks Ollie for your explanation on the workings of Skype and computers/connections. That seems to be the only downfall with this type lesson; is the knowledge of working with software and computers.

A bump for Ricky, i was at his place earlier this week for a lesson... I left 2 hours later as a much better player. Often times it takes another player to watch you play right up close to point out your bad habits. I highly recommend Ricky and his teaching... He will make you a better musician, not just a better steel player.

Hey Oliver, I see you're in Hamburg, I went to school in Hamburg way back in the 70's, went to the International School, what a great time that was, the good ol' days!
We lived in Stade and took the train in every day, my Dad was working in Stade building the Dow Chemical plant.
Spent 4 years in Hamburg and one in Frankfurt. 
You playing country music on the PSG? Is there much demand for that in Germany? |

As for country music in Germany, there is potential for improvement (to put it polite). You won't find a village fair without some Top 40 cover band playing "Country Roads" and "Sweet Home Alabama". Folks seem to appreciate especially these two songs for some reason, haha.
In Hamburg is a decent bluegrass scene, though. Lot's of fine mandoline, banjo and guitar pickers. If only bluegrass laws would allow psg's.... |

Hey Dennis; I remember selling that very special Georgeboard to Jack in Conroe, Tx sometime ago. Didn't know he sold it; or maybe I did but forgot. So Jack sold it to you?? or you get it from someone else??
