Wow- Isgc 2011

Post by Kenny Foy »

Just got back from St.Louis. Hadn't been in a few years. Russ, Bobbe, and Larry's inductions. Well deserved. Great seeing BJS Bars still in business. Sure did miss Bill. But it is in good hands. Had lots of good laughs with old friends. But have to say one of the best laughs of the day was a comedian or clown hanging out in one of the side rooms. Kept me and others in stitches. Wore what looked like a black Nudie's suit with red embrodering on it of what looked like cactus with bananas hanging off it and a tag hanging out of the suit that said "Made in China" topped off with a pair of white tennis shoes. And he cracked funnies the whole time he was on the stage. Kept us in stitches. Don't know what his name was but said it was Jack and if anybody who didn't like that his friends called him Jack the Zipper. Said he sold abUSED cars and buses in Florida. Watching all the players in the different rooms was just icing on the cake. Met several who were just tourists in for the Labor Day weekend and heard about the convention and said they would be back next year. And got to meet b0b. Really appreciate him for giving us this outlet. Just another great day to be alive. Oh Oh Oh and tried not to, but run into Smiley. Man that guy is a hoot. Anyone who doesn't know Smiley is missing something in there lives. I also got to ride up with a great bunch of guys and we had a blast the whole trip and thanks to our bus driver and Willie. Thanks for lettin me tell about my trip.

It was a great time, to be sure! Non-stop steel guitar music from great players, lots of fellow steelers to converse with and lots of steel guitar goodies. From the Hawaiian room to Joe Wright ripping rock guitar licks on pedal steel, there was something for just about everyone.

I was very happy to meet b0b and to thank him face to face for the huge service he does for steelers everywhere with this forum. It was also a pleasure to meet Billy Robinson, Ray Montee, Leonard Zinn and Virgil Watts, all great players and true gentlemen.

Special thanks to Scotty and his family for hosting the ISGC every year - the seed Scotty planted 40 years ago has become a massive tree. This was my first show, but it won't be my last. (Now I have to figure out how to get myself to Dallas in March!)
