New lap steel EP out today!

Post by Fred Kinbom »

Hello folks,

[22 August edit: CDs are now available here and iTunes download here.]

I just wanted to let you know that I have a new EP called "Quit My Job EP" coming out on 22 August. It contains 5 tracks, 4 with lap steel. :) (The digital release will also include a remix as a bonus track). Will post more news and some samples nearer the release - in the meantime here is the cover:

My 2009 album was a mellow affair based mainly around Weissenborn acoustic steel - this EP is mostly upbeat and I played my black Lap King Rodeo built by Jason DuMont on the tracks where the lap steel is more prominently featured (there is a load of instruments on the EP - percussion, double bass, accordion, cello, violin, drums, clarinet...).

Cheers,

Fred

This looks very interesting to me with the other instruments along w/ the LS. I'll be anxious to hear it.

Here is a tiny little preview:

I hope you will like it. I played my Burgin baritone Weissenborn on that track (then there's cello, clarinet, darbouka, accordion, drums and bass too ;)).

Cheers,

Fred

Howdy Fred,

This is absolutely GREAT!!! You've got it now;-) Can't wait to purchase a copy for the hacienda. This is going to sound so good poolside (I've been working on my cement pond). All the best from Texas my friend- This is lovely.

EP pre-orders

Post by Fred Kinbom »

With the release coming up in two weeks' time, the EP title track "Quit My Job" can now be streamed here:

http://listn.to/fredkinbom

As this is the Steel Guitar Forum, some gear info: The lap steel I played on the recording is a custom Lap King Rodeo (Lollar Imperial humbucker neck pickup being in use) through a Fender Blues Junior. :)

And, the "Quit My Job EP" can be pre-ordered from my website here:

http://www.fredkinbom.com/products.html

I hope you will enjoy the track, and any pre-orders are greatly appreciated!

All the best,

Fred

Just bought it on the Canadian iTunes. Listening now as I eat my breakfast. Great stuff Fred! Keep the music coming. It sure would be cool if you ever played Vancouver (or even Seattle or Portland). Although, I know we're a bit of a ways away...

Tonu, on that recording I had the baritone tuned to E minor (G minor format) but at the moment it's tuned to B (D major format). Many thanks for your CD orders!
