Reducing Weight

Hi.I have just come home from hospital with another coronary artery stent. Looks like I can't lift heavy weights in the future.I play a Mullen SD10 thru a PV Nash 112.Any suggestions how I can reduce the weight but keep a good sound? Many thanks Bryan.

Bryan, I played a Mullen D10, and 112,due bad back problem I moved to MSA Millenium and have just got a MB200 amp and built a cab and got a Sica 12inch speaker.If I am doing local gig and using my own car I put guitar in gig bag with pedal bar and legs in a shot gun case, if using a band van or flying I use a lightweight Scott Dixon wheeled flightcase, you could also use SKB drum trap case, or a peli ( alligator case?), there was a thread about this recently. Even with Mullen in these type of cases it should help with weight.You will probably get a few comments about it being crazy to put steel in gig bag (mainly from case makers) but as long as you are careful it is safe, most of these guys don't know what it is to suffer back pain, or in your case risk heart problems lifting heavy gear.

Light weight split cases. Will reduce your one piece carry weight 18-20 punds by splitting the weight. www.hattoncases.net I have two stents in me. Had two heart attacks. I know what you just went through.

Malcolm. Thanks for your help and sugestions.This gives me hope for the future.I'm not sure about using bags.Sometimes other people help to lift gear and there is not a mark on my guitar,I see Jack Stoner has reduced weight with lighter cases.Thanks again Bryan.

Bryan, have a word with Ted, he might have Scott Dixon cases you can look at, if you haven't already seen them at the Drogheda show.I have been using my gig bag for about two years now, and have not even come close to causing any damage.No matter what your choice will be,a split case is the way to go.Malcolm

Im have just set up a new light weight system that works and sounds great. I have two Siesmic speaker cabinets loaded with 12" SICA 8 ohm speakers. The cabinets and speakers weight 20 lbs each. I am using a light weight rack with a new Peavey IRG 1600 amp. It weighs 8 lbs. I also have a BBE Maximizer in the rack. The rack weighs in at about 12 lbs. I am playing through a POD XT. Sounds great and is very easy to carry around.

I'm using 2 ZT club amps now with a POD XT to tweak my tone.

These amps put out 200 watts into a 12" speaker, and weigh just 22 pounds. Both amps together weigh about 60% of what my Music man twin weighs.

Steel Guitar Case Wheel Kit:

Give your back a break! The Williams Wheel kit includes two steel mounted ball bearing wheels, and a spring loaded, heavy duty handle with comfortable rubber grip. Mounting screws NOT included.

Cheap way to add a lot of portability to whatever you end up with! Added them to a Shobud case.. worked very well. Another option is listed below..

I also agree with the Williams 700 S10.. 25lbs.. and to my ears, no loss of sound.

I have not played through one.. but a lot of people tell me the Gallien Krueger MB200 bass amp (2 lbs) sounds great through a 1X12 Cabinet..

One other item to consider is a lightweight folding hand truck. You can find them in the under 15Lb weight area made out of either aluminum or composite that will haul up to 500 lbs. Leverage is the key and once it is rolling.. it is very low effort.

This one weighs about 8 lbs, and folds up.. hauls 250 lbs..
