You know, I've worked on more than a thousand, probably closer to two thousand pedal guitars in the last 40 years. Guitars of just about every brand and set up that you can think of,,,,but I've never owned or used an "E" clip tool on the 14 hole Emmons LeGrande (or any other guitar for that matter). Needless to say, I've lost or ruined my share of those pesky little buggers, cussed and recussed 'em till I'm blue in the face , ruined a couple of vacume cleaners to boot.
A friend of mine called me last night and said he had seen some for sell on Ebay. I told him I had never heard of an E clip tool, but that I'd sure like to have one if they work well and do the job.
Anybody had any experience with them and what do you think about them? Yea or nay?
Thanks in advance,

I found these in a hardware store.
I bought two.
One for my Emmons, and one for Nic du Toit's Emmons.
No more fiddling.

The tool that I use appears to be the same as the unit pictured in Peter's post. These function in the opposite way from a normal pair of pliers, when the handle is sqeezed, the jaws with the pins open for easy removal of the "E" clip. To reinstall the clip, you simply reposition it in place and release the handle. |

Peter and David,
Those pictures looks like those are for snap rings instead of "E" clips. I have several pairs of the snap ring tools.
Ken, I think your pictures are more of what I'm looking for. Just not sure about the metric sizes.

Clem is a brilliant guy to buy from, and he knows Emmons guitars back to front. If he is recommending this tool you can be guaranteed it works well.
I too have an Emmons LG2 with 14 hole pullers and those clips are a nightmare - very fiddly and prone to fly off when you try to put them on the pull rod. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. Clem is also the guy who wrote the " Methodology " book on the Emmons push pull. With this book you can take your p/p down to the last screw and put it together again. Not only that, he makes the best bbq sauces in the world and you can purchase them on line I believe. Great guy to do business with. |

Is the Methodology book available for purchase somewhere online? I didn't see it in the book section of the Forum store. |

Clem usually sells the booklet on eBay listed as "Pedal Steel Guitar Methodology P/P Guide Booklet" for $11.
He also sells a DVD listed as "Pedal Steel Guitar Methodology DVD P/P Guide" for $17, and a combo package of the book and DVD as "Pedal Steel Guitar Methodology P/P Book & DVD Package" for $22.
If you can't find it on e-Bay, you can contact Clem at: freedomsauce at bellsouth dot net
