A friend who plays very well, but doesn't have a computer, seeks to duplicate the Don Helms arrangement of Walkin' After Midnight, as performed by Patsy Cline. He tells me, though I didn't know it, that is was Don who backed Patsy up on the famous recording of that tune. My friend can play the song on both his E9 and C6 necks, but he can't tell by listening to the recording which neck Don was using. My buddy is a stickler for detail, and wants to get it just right. Does anyone out there know for sure what the answer is? Thanks! |

I'm gonna guess Don used E6 on his Gibson Console Grande. |

I always thought Ben Keith played on that cut.
P.S.
ok...I spoke too soon. Just checked, and it was "I Fall To Pieces" that Ben played on.
Nevermind... |

Don did play on the first recording I believe. Patsy cut it twice and the second time there was no steel and the Jordonaires started the song with their vocals going 'walkin walkin walkin'. Russ Wever would know for sure. This was one of the classic intros of all time played by a real 'stylist' Don Helms. _________________ World Class Songwriter

I'd love to know exactly how Don played some of the licks on this song, I've been trying to work it out but I think I'm getting some of it slightly wrong. Anyone got Walking After Midnight tab for Don's E6 (nothing found in the forum archives)? |

Although "Walkin After Midnight" is not included, this instruction book contains some of Don's other memorable tunes all tabbed out and available right here on the Forum. Click Here. |

Thanks for responding, Andy, Skip, W.C., Jonathan, and especially Larry! Did all of you click on Larry's link and watch Don do his thing? Gives me chills, he was sooo good. My friend will be tickled to have this information. Thanks again, fellas. |
