Advice please! Fender Dual-Professional feedback problems

Post by Kevin Greenberg »

I am having feedback problems at higher volumes. My steel has the trapezoid pickups, and they are pretty microphonic. I have re-wound one pickup because it was weak, but it didn't help with the feedback problems. I am thinking about taking apart the pickups, and de-magnetizing the pickup housing/covers, and base-plates. Will this solve the problem? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

The pickups need to be wax-potted to reduce microphonics.

microphonic

Jason, have you wax-potted Fender trapezoid pickups, and have it fix the problem? I would hate to go through all that trouble, just to have it not work. The factory pickup is equally as microphonic as the one I re-wound, which I did a half-ass wax-pot job on, and wrapped with electrical tape.

It's the nature of the Beast(s) ... it's not microphonics ... it's "Vibrophonics / Vibrosonics" ...

Everything in life has it's tradeoffs ...

Thanks, Rick. Much appeciated. I was thinking that "Nature of the Beast" might have been a factor. Thanks for confirming it, before I ripped apart my steel. I'll have to try your rubber mounting trick.
