After readiang the rave reviews about Webb amps, I just couldn't help myself and I procured a Model 6-14E Webb amp off of e-bay yesterday.
I am anxiously awaiting its arrival.
However, I would like your opinion on something.
It has a Peavey 15" Black Widow in it and am wondering if it would be advantageous to put in a JBL speaker, possibly a K-130?

The K130 is rated at 150 watts. Isn't the 6-14E 225 watts?

Is it a 1501-4 BW that's in it now?
Don't know how you can beat that...unless it's a weight thing. If so, you can change out the magnet for a Neo. |

Yes, I'm quite sure it has a 1501-4 in it.
I read some of the postings here on the Forum and according to some tests, the JBL was the winner.

Nice amp!
I thought that he used JBL in his amps, but I don't know which model.
Either way, I'm sure you wouldn't have any trouble getting rid of the 1501.
BTW I looked at the specs again on the K130.
250W Continuous Program (Peak), 125W Continuous Sine Wave (RMS). |

I guess I'm a fan of JBL speakers, but I sure can't find fault with the BW 1501's, either.
I guess my favorite combo amp is a Fender Twin Reverb that I bought new in 1967. I ordered that amp with JBL speakers.
If this Webb is better than than the Twin, it will really be something! |

If I'm not mistaken the K-130 was the original speaker for this vintage Webb. I've tried various speaker combinations in mine and I think the JBL is the one that sounds the best.

| Erv, my Webb is a 1978 and came with an original JBL E 130 8 which I've never had a problem with. I think this was one of the choices when ordering the amp. I have pushed it quite hard, and it still sounds great! |

From what I read, it's sort of a toss up between the E-130 and the K-130.
It is my understanding that the K-130 has a higher power rating.
Also in the same vain, an 8 ohm speaker has advantages over a 4 ohm speaker, anything to that? |

If the 225 watt power rating is at 4ohm, then you will get less power at 8ohm.
Example...the TC Furlong Split cab is rated 500 watts at 4ohm and 300 watts at 8ohm...
Do you have any kind of spec sheet or owner's manual coming with the amp? |

I doubt if any paper will come with the amp.
How close are the new Webbs to the old?

Says they recommend an 8ohm speaker (although you can use a 4ohm) to guard against speaker damage. Makes me wonder what you have in there now...a 1501-4 or 1501-8?
I'm guessing the 225 watts is at 4ohm and your getting less than that with a recommended 8ohm speaker. |

Not hardly.
Not even.
Last JBL E-130 (which is 4 ohm) was in an amp that I sold Memphis Slim in a Randall Steelman 500. The speaker was in excellent+ condition.
Chances are, if you do find one, it has been reconed. Then you would need to be sure it was reconed with a 4 ohm basket.
Anybody that has a JBL E-130 for sale, give me a shout. |
