I just received an email from my good friend Doyle "Shady" Mitchell relaying information about an event long in the making. It reads as follows:
"I just confirmed Curtis Potter for the Opry on June 22, thats a Thursday night at the Opry House at 337 Walnut, here in Colorado City, Texas. Bob Rains will be on steel. Tickets can be reserved by calling 325 737 2163 or picked up at Dandys Diner, 121 E. 2nd St in Colorado City. Their telephone number is 325-728-5494."
Now with Curtis doing the vocals and the great Bobby Rains on steel guitar, that's really country music. Curtis has long been a supporter of steel guitar and everyone knows Bobby Rains is the father of the famous Rains Steel guitars.
Doyle and Debbie Mitchell have been long standing supporters of Pure Country Music and this news is more than welcome here in the West Texas area. Both these fine folks have sacrificed a lot in maintaining a place for the younger folks to show their talents publicly. The fact that professional caliber of performers coming to the show will only lend credence to the Mitchells' efforts. What great news. Subsequent conversation with Shady reveals they are contemplating even further attempts to bring 'stars' into the area for the Thursday night shows.
OK folks, we really gotta' support efforts like these to keep it going. Show up and enjoy the treat.

Thanks for the kind words Fred, we are looking forward to having Curtis do a show here in Colorado City, as you know the opry house is owned by the city and an accident and an unforunate law suit had us shut down for over a year, but we are back and are looking forward to rolling again. Curtis is a terrific performer and a super nice guy and is rolling again after some health problems himself. We look forward to seeing you at the show. Dont forget your camera! and of course Dovie. I wonder what brand steel Bob will be playing?? Just kidding Bob!!! |

Folks, tomorrow night's the big night in Colorado City. Shady and Deb Mitchell have booked the great Curtis Potter for the vocals and one of the country's finest steelers to play with him, the one and only Bobby Rains of Rains Guitars. It starts at 7 pm at the theater on Walnut street. Lets get behind the Mitchells and support this effort to keep pure country music alive in West Texas. We'll be there shoutin' and yellin' for that good ole' country sound.

Well folks, it was a 'sellout'. Not an empty seat in the house. Curtis did an outstanding job for over 2 hours. What a performer!!
Bobby Rains and his Crossfire band were superb, providing excellent music for the crowd. We were all treated to a visit from Mr. Jim Baum, Mayor of Colorado City and a great supporter of country music.
What a unique setting for the evening in the old Opry House there on Walnut Street. Shady and Debbie Mitchell were gracious hosts to not only the audience but also to the performers.
This little ditty just has to continue. The Mitchells are intent on bringing "major performers" into town.
The crowd was tremendous and not enough can be said for the backup band. Wow! Bobby Rains not only builds a great steel guitar, but folks he can play the devil out of one too. Larry, Bobby's brother, is one of the best lead players in the business around these parts, and the two of them together are just super players.
What else can I say but that we enjoyed the show, the music, the companionship, and are looking forward to the next 'go round'.

PS. The pics are in the shop and we'll post them here as soon as we get them back.
