A friend of mine has inherited an old Dual Professional. It is one that has the "boxcar" rectangular pickups. Not the later trapezoid pickup models. I am going to try and get it up and running. The first thing I noticed is the tuning machines are really stiff. Does anyone know what oil would be good on these? Second question is that the pickups have a good tone but a low output. I had a trapezoid Dual in the past and remember it being a really hot pup. Any ideas on why the output is low?

its bad news if the tuners are going - if they are stuck or sticking DONT try to turn them (i know-cost me a tuner) - you need to pull the pans and check them before restringing - if ANY of the brazing is starting to break - they need to be fixed - (i've heard a machine shop can do this) - if they break loose they will go pretty quick. i lube them with a white grease yearly. if they are presently shot - then i've heard Bobbe Seymour can retro-fit new tuners but it aint cheap. the tuners are the achilles heel of these great steels.

jason lollar is the contact on pickup rewinding if needed.
