The slots are almost all full, but we still have a couple of them open for both days.
I hope that everybody within driving distance who reads this comes to watch and listen and meet everybody else, even if you don't want to play. I look forwards to seeing and meeting as many of you as possible. |

I will be there Sat. Went last year for the first time and had a great time just listening to all the fine steel. Will JD be there? _________________ 78 Emmons PP,Great tone.82 Emmons SKH #56 |

JD has been invited, and he has always attended the jams in the past. However, I've not been able to reach this year to ascertain whether or not he plans to attend. (I wonder if he's on tour.) _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Just a bump up and FYI for this weekend.
Not sure how much of an impact it might have on traffic getting to the Jam, but the Long Beach Grand Prix is also going on this weekend. I know it is not real close to the Jam, but ya never know.
See ya there!!!

Just got back from the Sunday jam, and I wanna thank the 2 Mikes (Perlowin and Maddux) for hosting the cool event, and Jim Eaton for being the "back up band in a box". Everybody in attendance played great and a good time was had by all! I regret missing some of the guys who were only there on Saturday, like my pal Al Vescovo, but there were many notable killer players on Sunday! The Sam Ash music store was a real improvement from the old venue too. Hope to do it again next year! |

Adding my thanks to the Mikes, and Jim. Much better sounding room, and we still had Mexican food, and beer, available across the street. We should do this more often! |

Yeah, it was a fun day. Some fine playing...always a treat to hear Rick do his own thing. Jim, Kevin, Peter, John were all stellar. Many thanks to Mike P for all his hard work putting it together and to Jim E for running the show.
And a tip of the hat to Mike at Sam Ash for setting us up in the cool new digs. |

It was a great weekend. We had a better turnout on Sunday. I want to thank Mike Maddox for getting us the use of the Sam Ash store.
We had a lot of fine players, but I want to single out Peter Frieberger. Peter has only been playing a few years, but he has already arrived. He has gotten so good, in such a short period of time, that he blew me away. I'm going to hit him up for some lessons.
I also want to thank everybody who came to support us, including Joe Naylor and his lovely wife Denise who drove out from Arizona. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Wow what fun - Denise has figured the only way to get me out of the steelseat shop is to go to a steel guitar jam or show.
We really enjoyed our weekend - both days were great and both were different - yesterday (Sunday) I told Rick Schmidt after living in Texas I did not ever think I would be saying this but after San Antonio Rose ------ I told him San Antonio Rose with a California flair Wow - I know I said that again. We enjoyed it a lot - seeing ole (now old) friends meeting new ones and getting to know some folks better ONLY ONE PROBLEM
WARNING - SAM ASH COSTS YOU MONEY - I wished there was a store like that in the Phoenix area but maybe not ------ money left my pocket ----- I have a new project idea so more work but I also bought a "Starter Guitar for our young Ian" he is attending the Metropolitan Arts Institue here in Phoenix and is starting guitar classes next year so I wound up buying a nice Epiphone guitar, amp, tuner, extra strings, DVD - that was on sale. Great little guitar and great set-up for a beginner. So the Buick was full to the roof plus the trunk with some steelseats, a couple guitars, my project, suite cases etc - even room to bring Denise home with me.
For all you SWSGA members I am going to write an article for the next newsletter and that is what the photos are for - hope I took good enough photos ---
Thanks ---- I told Mike Maddux who is in charge of the association over there and is an employee of that Sam Ash Music Store he should have a couple a year and maybe we can get some AZ or even a NV guy to come over ------ Great jam

Oh shucks. Thanks Mike. I admit I have been practicing, but nowadays with the internet, Steel Guitar Forum, little digital recorders, and all the cool devices to sample and slow down licks, etc., not to mention the decades of great players and their work to learn from, it's so much easier than when I was learning bass, picking up phonograph needles over and over, playing the same passage a million times and ruining LPs. What's sadly not available now are the five night, five sets a night club gigs that gave you a place to hone your technique, play all the classics, and find places for the cool new licks you learned.
But I suppose I'm a traditionalist. Less of that applies if you're blazing new trails playing "West Side Story" or Stravinsky on a steel guitar. |

Peter, a very wise woman (by the name of Mrs. Mike Perlowin) once said "You can do anything you want. But you can't do everything you want." Doing my classical thing has come at the expense of my not learning all the great stuff you played.
Perhaps if I had stuck to playing country I'd know as much as you. But that's beside the point. As I said before, you've arrived. You've made the transition from student to pro, and you did it in an amazingly short period of time.
I'm very impressed, and to tell the truth, a little envious. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Hey Peter, sounds like you stole the show! Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
Boy do I feel like I missed a great weekend! But when the gigs come- take them, that's my advice
Jim E., sounds like you brought the biab- Here Here!!! "For he's a jolly good steeler, for he..."
I'll start working on '12 now! _________________ Dave Wren

I certainly had a blast on Saturday! Hats of to Mike P for finding a great new place Jim E for proceeding over the tracks. Missed seeing all our friends from the North, like you, Dave!
Glad to hear Sunday had a better turn out - sure bummed to have missed you, Rick! Hope you're doing great!

Thanks David, but I probably only surprised them by not sucking as bad as I did at the last Perl Jam. There were some really good players there. I'm always particularly impressed by Al Vescovo and Rick Schmidt, to only name two, because they know what to do on that other neck I only rest my arms on. |

I was there Sunday hovering over many of you. I'm hoping to bring my steel next year and give it a go! Such an inspiration and education for me. Why can't this be a monthly thing... |

Special thanks to Mike Perlowin, Mike Maddux, & Jim Eaton. for all the hard work to make an event like this happen, I was there on Sunday just to watch & listen. All the players were really good. This really inspired me to do some woodshedding & get ready for next year.. As I said to John McClung, I was not just watching but was hoping to steal some licks ...lol.. Thanks again to all for the great inspiration.. |

Hey Mike, sounds like the " L. A. Pearl Jam " is going strong. I have moved back home to Simi Valley, to take care of my mom. My studio is set back up and I'm playing my steel after a two year lay-off. I am hopeful to play at next years' Jam. Thanks for all you have done for our steel guitar community.
