This will be on CBS if I'm not mistaken? Which ever network it will be on broadcast or "free" television!
This sounds like a great line in tribute to Buck!!! |

I wish I could see this, especially the tribute part with Brumley. If anyone records it, I would gladly pay for a tape or DVD of it. I will be at band practice.
E-mail me is you make a copy. I can make a dvd from a VHS. Would be willing to make a copy for you if you send me the VHS.

Did you guys catch that drummer? I forget who they said he was but I seen Tom laughing over there. I was too. That had to be the drummers first country set. I'll say he was into it but just a tad out there for his country looks! |

It was good to see Tom Brumley even thought I do not believe they had his steel sounding as well as it could have. I was disappointed in the whole show. Country music today is awful IMHO and those hairdo's look awful as well. I guess I am too old fashioned even at 46 years of age. I will hang onto Ray Price, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn and some of the other greats from a few years ago. I just wonder what Roy Accuff would think if he could see this stuff they have out today. And just think, they will be the future stars of the Grand Ole Opry, not that it is even worth watching today. |

I thought Tom's steel playing sounded just fine after the first song: his volume increased and tone improved. I don't know if that was his doing or the sound guy's.
I wish there had been a solo or two, but these shows are, unfortunately, more about the glitz than the actual music.

I agree with retcop - Doyle and Willy should have been included. Although the drummer looked weird, he played well, and that's what matters. Paul, again, I thought Brumley's tone and touch was obviously the best on the show - it just jumped right out at you from the first note. I don't know why you are having SUCH a problem with it. It was classic TB, and that's 'bout as good as it gets ..... |

I agree with ya Paul, about Tom's tone and especially about the so called country music now days. A discrace to what real country music is suppose to sound like. |

No doubt that Mr. Brumley made the show! Paisley impressed me with his little ditty of the "Buckaroo" instrumental, accompanied by Mr. Brumley's impeccable steel licks. I also thought it was cool to see Buddy Alan sing "Streets of Bakersfield" with Dwight Yoakam; he looks and sounds just like his daddy! As far as the kid on drums, I thought his attire was unorthodox to the Country scene, but, positively speaking, you never know just how many kids out there are followers of this guy, and by virtue of his performance last night might become Buck Owens fans, too. Probably not, but I can dream, can't I?

I recorded most of the show while I was out. I missed the middle hour and was glad the Buck tribute was on the part that I got. I fast forwarded thru all but some of the actual award announcements. I was really disappointed in the Buck tribute. The ZZ Top guy sure can't sing. I'm old fashioned and couldn't stand to look at the drummer whose daddy surely must be a peacock. Tom did a good job but could have been used more. A Together Again solo was in order. I, too, was amazed at how much Buddy looked like Buck. All in all, just another example of why I don't watch country award shows. If you've never met Tom Brumley, you've missed out. A super nice guy and great steeler. |

I almost agree with you, Mr. Visser (minus the profanity). However, you have to admit that regardless of how badly the program was presented, Buck Owens was honored on national television- something that should've occurred while he was still breathing! Doyle and Willie should've been added to the likes of Mr. Brumley (for historical accuracy if nothing else), and the tribute portion of the program should've lasted longer. Even if you didn't enjoy the tribute to Buck Owens, what about the graciousness shown to that little girl by Vince Gill? I couldn't hold the tears back when I saw him hand his humanitarian award to that little girl on stage with him! Yes, Reba got on my nerves (as usual), Trace Adkins violated the children and church-goers with his half-clad dancers, and little to no musical ability was portrayed by the majority of the performers on stage, but at least Alvis Edgar Owens (aka "Buck") went out with a standing ovation! So, I say "Buck 'Em"! |

I for one had a hard time setting through the entire show. I'm not a fan of many of the preformers that appeared. But I think the Buck Tribute was adequate. Though I personally would have prefered it last the entire show. But let's face it a lot of people DID tune in to SEE Kenny, Rascal Flats and listen to "Honky Tonk ba do"(I can't even finish typing it it's so ridiculous ).
But I think it's out of line to run down the guys that took time out of there schedule to come pay tribute to Buck. You/ I/We are not the sole Buck Owens fans out there and don't get to decide who/why anyone else can/can't like him. If you listened to the introduction by Vince Vaughn (a buck fan you've probably never heard of) they were honoring not only buck but the influence he's had across the music world. Hence the inclusion of Chris Hillman, Billy Gibbons and the Drummer from Blink 182 (who wether you like him or not played the set perfectly, and seemed to truely enjoy being a part of the tribute).
I think it was great for them to bring Tom Brumley in form the Show Me State to represent the Buckaroos. And He sounded great, the mix was a little soft at the beginning but they cleared it up I thought.
But let's give the ACM credit for trying to show Bucks influence. And don't forget Buck had his fare share of influences outside the "pure" country relm. He was an R&B,R&R, Rockabilly, Bluegrass and Pop fan also. And that all shown threw in his music throughout his career.
It's great that Buck got some time in the spotlight. I was well deserved. |
