Who is your favorite steeler?

Almost all of my favorites have been mentioned including Susan Alcorn! There is one who I think is one of the least mentioned but heaviest steelers. The late great Red Rhodes. His work on Mike Nesmith's records is mind bending. His "solo" record Velvet Hammer in a Cowboy hand is my favorite "steel guitar" record. His technique was as out of this world as was his creativity. He deserves at least as much cred as Sneaky Pete not to negate Pete's contributions.

Buddy is on top of the list,,,that's for sure.
Just a few of my other favorites (which is probably too many to mention),,,Randy Beavers, Russ Hicks, Ron Elliot, the three Cajon boys, Mernel, Joe and Richard, Jody Cameron, Paul Franklin and Mike McGee. Probably should include Billy Phelps in there too.

I can't believe someone that has as many CD's, Videos, and Courses and has probably played more shows than anyone, is in the Hall of Fame, and has probably done more to promote steel guitar has not been mentioned.

From all the responders to this thread it looks to me that most are E9th players and not old enough to remember the excitement that this steel player could create. Be it E9th or jazz, the late great JULIAN THARPE has to be one of the absolutely best ever. What a musical mind, distinctive sound and taken from us way too soon and didn't leave nearly enough recordings of his great talent..
