I think it's actually Gene Davis. His name is on the front of his steel. Smile

Dave, Gene Davis was the bandleader, not the steel player.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Who else played with Gene Davis' band?

Could that be JayDee M.? Just a guess.

Another remote possibility is that it's Frank Arnett. I know Frank played a Fender, but I think his steel was a single neck, and it really doesn't look like Frank to me. But then it has been over thirty years since I've seen him.

It's been over thirty years since I've seen him, and I only met Frank about twelve or thirteen years after this video was recorded, so I am not sure what he looked like more than a decade earlier.

They both played for Gene Davis at various times.

Sorry about the duplicate posting.

Could it be Blackie Taylor. His website says he played for Gene Davis, among many others. I've never met Blackie but he seems like a suspect.

I like this clip so much that I played along. Feels like an E9 tuning without the high G#. Very cool! Who needs chromatic strings anyway? Whoa! What would be a standard E tuning for 8 string during that era?

That show was recorded in Toronto and Gene used some of the local musicians up there to cut down on production cost. So I would guess it's whoever was the hot steel player around Toronto in the mid-'60s.

Maybe that's why the song is "My Window Faces The South". And it's snowing. Brrrrr. it gets cold up there.
