Anyone know the steel player on Wed. April 13th American Idol show? It was great to see him right up front for millions of viewers to see !

Probably Doug Livingston. He plays steel and lives in California.

The kid who sang the heavy metal song hit a couple of high notes that were so in tune I couldn't believe it.

It looked like a Sho-Bud then I got a VERY quick glimpse of the name plate and I truly beleive it was a Sho-Bud. Maybe someone has it recorded and can verify my suspicions.
Keep pickin', Larry

3 nights of PSG on Idol

Post by Bob Sykes »

Thursday night was a Sho-Bud fo' sho'. Wednesday night was a different player. I'm still new to spotting steels but his looked like a Red(ish) mica D10. The nameplate was a horizontal rectangle, but too dark to read. Maybe a screwed on badge...?

Last Wed. had a PSG player up front too. He got even more camera close up time. Whoever thought that would happen on THIS show? :-)

It was Jamison Hollister. He was the steel player with Skylar. His website:

He is from my neck of the woods--Mississippi. He's from Oxford, I'm from Hattiesburg. I learned of him via a craigslist ad. Great player!

To be a musician on American Idol, one must be a) cute, b) cute, and c) cute. Just kidding, I'm sure your friend is a good player (but he's probably cute, right?)

I laughed when I saw the fiddle player on there last night and the mandolin player--I thought he was going to do a windmill.

I ran into my old pal Jay Leach last weekend down in Oceanside at the Jay Dee Seminar and ask him why I was not seeing him "on camera" this year like the past few years of the AI show. He told me that they were really pushing the "20-something" look for the on camera players, but that most of the playing on the recorded tracks that they are playing along with are done by the "old school - A team" players.
