Split Screws Too Loose...Solutions?

Post by Tim Heidner »

I need a way to make my split screws tighten up a little, but still be able to turn, of course.
I'm thinking I might try a bit of heat shrink...

On thing that can be easier to get loose later is a dab of clear nail polish. This also works well on the saddles of six string guitars.
I'd rather be pickin'

loose half tuning screws

Post by Dick Shive »

I use Pipe thread silicone rapping tape, just use a narrow piece with one rap on the screw, the tape files up the slop while providing a lubicant. This way things will not lock up. Since pipe threads are very loose in relationship, pipe fitters love this stuff instead of locite or paint. This stuff is also handy to tighten up the pull rod treads in relation to the plastic tuning nuts. Good luck and happy steeling
