Just a quick note following my request for info on my Mosrite Square-neck. I started the strip-down today, ready for clean-up and re-build. There's hidden dirt....and then there's hidden dirt! Check out the attached pics. Also any thoughts re. the pickup would be appreciated. It's not the original....is it worth seeking out a factory-spec replacement? There are screw-holes either side of the pick-up body where, I assume, the original was.
Thanks in advance,
Tony

P.S: I've also attached a pic of the sadly-departed 12-string I mentioned in my previous 'dating'thread.

Wow - time to start a garden. That dirt was like sand paper in there so that sound ring probably needs to be leveled.
Going to be a cool guitar when it's restored.
Keep those upper bout sound screens for originality; but for playing...I'd replace them with modern open screens so some sound can escape.
Did they ground the pickup and controls to the cover plate?

Hi Ted,
Sorry for the delay, only just saw your reply. Pics. attached of the end-result, yes it sounds great and plays well. The electrics were grounded beneath the cone. It's for home use, so it'll be played acoustically for now. I'll leave the screens as they arte...it's more than loud enough for me!
Regards, Tony

I wouldn't change a thing as far as the knobs and pickup. Old mods are sometimes just what a guitar needed and that one is super cool looking.

I love the things old resonators collect. A buddy bought a '31 Triolian and it had a mud daubers nest on the neck stick! Shocked

I was suprised to see the "Dobro" sticker on the headstock. Did Dobro build the Mosrites?

It was the other way around. In 1967 Semie Moseley acquired the rights to the Dobro brand from Emil Dopyera and his partners. He built Dobro® brand resonator guitars until 1970. OMI (Ed and Rudy Dopyera, Ron and Gabriela Lazar) built "Hound Dog" and "Dopera" brand resonator guitars during that time. OMI regained the rights to the Dobro® name in 1970.

Brad,
Thanks for the info.
When did Gibson acquire the "Dobro" name?

Tony- I'm looking at one of these guitars, and I'm pretty sure that your pickup is original, but is missing the plastic "ring" that goes around the base. The actual pickup looks just like the one I'm thinking about getting.
