Sho-Bud SD-10

Post by Scott Boone »

One Sho-Bud "SD-10" pedal steel guitar. It's got one 10 string neck mounted on a doubleneck chassis, with a big ol' comfy "church pew" style armrest in front instead of the second neck. Three foot pedals and four knee levers in a pretty standard Nashville setup. One string is broken, but I'll throw in a pack of brand new ones. I don't know how old it is, but I'd guess late 70's or sometime from the golden age of country.

I'm not a pedal steel expert, but I do know guitars/mechanics and all the parts seem to be in good working order. Smooth action, stays in tune, that sort of thing. The pickup was replaced with an aftermarket unit that was a little bit larger than the original, so there's a bit of metal missing from the bridge (although there's plenty left--this is not a svelte instrument). The electronics are all in working order. Someone added some (now disconnected) switches and an additional jack, but there aren't any messy holes from that. It's pretty clean, as well--with a little polish it could be downright stunning. Sorry for the horrible pictures. If you like I can break out the SLR and take something a little more flattering (the wood is actually really pretty).

I didn't really ever learn how to play it and now I'm going on tour and don't have space for it. My loss, your gain. I'd like to get about $1200 for it, but I'd consider a trade or trade + cash for the right tele (especially with a b-bender!)

Included: one dunlop steel bar, case, full set of tuning and adjustment wrenches, and the aforementioned strings.

Thanks!

Unfortunately I do not know specifics such as model type--perhaps a more knowledgeable forum member could assist?

Thanks for your interest,

It looks like an early Pro II with two hole pullers that has had the back neck taken off.

Yes, that mechanism is early Pro II (before "the" was added and the front was changed to square), with the barrels behind pullers and the single/single changer. Some argue it's the best Sho~Bud era for tone/playability compromise. The fretboard has been changed out for a later Superpro type, and the pickup looks like an Emmons. The pickup housing has been enlarged to accommodate. I'd be interested to know if the knobs on the changer end are volume and tone. Looks like a fine guitar.
