Topic: Packing tips for shipping a Stringmaster overseas? |

| I'm going to be shipping a D8 Fender Stringmaster overseas, in it's case. Does anyone have any advice for me on how to pack it? ... specifically, how much bigger should the box be? What type of packing materials? ...and how to protect the guitar while its in the case? |

David,a number of years ago I shipped a S10 PGS to England. The first thing I did was pack the insterment in the case with packing matersl so there was no movemet of insterment, pedals, rods and legs. IT WAS TIGHT. Then I contacted an UPS outlet and purchased two of tieir largest boxes and cut them open so the box was flat, then I put the case on the box and every place i could use a natrual box fold I did. I used wide high quality packing tape. when I finished that wrapping I took the other box repeted the procedure starting at the other end this time. I did not spare the tape. It may sink but it was water proof
Make sure you check with the shipping company about weight, and over all measurement. I SHIPPED THE INSTERMENT VIA [FED EX]

| I had a D8 stringmaster sent to me in Australia from the US. It was simply in it's case which was then wrapped in an inch of bubblewrap and then covered with a cardboard shell. It arrived fine EXCEPT the plastic end on the neck toggle switch had shattered, so I'd advise you to remove the plastic end and send it seperately. |

Actually, it's going to Scotland, and yes, I am in California.  This is a one-time sale to another player... I've owned this steel for years and I'm not in the business of buying and selling instruments.
Michael, when say "packing materials", does that mean packing peanuts will work? When you say a "solid carton", are standard carboard boxes thick or sturdy enough?
Wayne, are you saying that you constructed the boxes so that the case fit snugly inside it, or did you make it larger and fill it with packing material? |

David I cut the box along the glued edge opened the box so that the cardboard laied flat on the floor. then I put the case on the cardbord and started. The inner wrapping was the same as the outer, corners and edges all taped secure when completed there were two layers of cardboard then the guitar case. As I mentioned earlier I used heavy quality packing tape, and did not sapre the quanity. I even taped over the address. And as others have mentioned included an address inside. I also insured the insterment for replacement value. The negoiciated price included insurance as well as shipping, which I am sure your are doing.

rolled up & folded newspaper is better than peanuts in order to keep the instrument & accessories from movin' around in the case
bubble wrap is a must to protect the intrument |
