Conway on Porters show

Post by Dave Grothusen »

Conway is on the Porter Wagoner Show on RFD. Who is the steel player? He does not look like a young Papa John. He has what looks like four pedals in the center and is using both feet on the pedals. Maybe one is a volume because he does not have a customary volume pedal.
I listened to it again and it sounds a lot like Moon.

Probably Lew Houston. Lew didn't use a volume pedal. He used a volume control on the guitar. Great player. Jody.

I didn't see the show, but I would also guess it was Lew. I don't know of any other players for Conway other than Lew and John.

We're so used to hearing chicken pickin' from a Tele, that it took me awhile to realize it's coming from the steel.

Conway's first country albums on Decca were reissued on CD recently.

Danny, great cut! Very unique steel style, very cool. I didn't realize Lew played like that.

Vintaqe Lew!!

LH sat in for me one night with Mike Franklin's band at the Nashville Nevada Club, had to be around 1971. I offered him my Sho-Bud, but he hauled out a Fender 400 and totally tore it up. A really great and unique player.
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?
