Rick Nelson with Tom Brumley

Aahh.. I wrote to Ace about two or three years ago and suggested they do that comp.. I used to work for their Australasian distributor, and helped hook up interviewees for a western swing comp and another project just prior to that.
I also offered to do the sleeve notes.. hmmm no reply.
Well, at least it's out, it was probably already in the works.
Actually my concept was a little different, a straigth up reissue of the LP on vinyl, and a CD replica in vinyl sleeve. The a series of live albums taken from each show they taped from the late '69 run at the Troubador. Total madness!.. I'd liked to have seen it though.
The Ace CD would be very cool. This should be a direct link via the Ace webpage:

The original album totally kicks ass, great tight band, great songs, and Tom Brumley and Rick Nelson!

Here's a great video with Tom mixed up nicely. I'm thinking this was Steve Duncan on drums, although I can't see the band much...

No, drummer isn't Steve Duncan, it's Richie Hayward, that played for Little Feat.

Looks like when he got to heaven they gave him a lute instead of a harp.

Thanks for posting "One Night Stand." That is some great playing. I got to see Tom with Rick at the county fair/Strawberry Festival in Plant City, FL back around the time that video was made, and that one song stuck with me all these years. This is the first time I've heard it since. When I saw them in person, Tom's playing on that tune was boiling hot.
Steeless.

Why 11 Strings
When I asked Tom in 1996 about the 11 string steel he said initially that he had added a bass string so he could compliment Don's lick on Act Naturally but then he had seen multiple uses for it afterwards.

Tom recorded an album by Jimmy Rabbit that has a lot of hot steel on it. I can't describe it any other way. Jimmy(who was actually a DJ), let us say, was an average not great vocalist and the producers might have noticed that and given Tom more leeway on the project. I thinbk the album came out in 1977..Peter

I musta pressed do not follow this topic's replies.. and missed a bunch of comments.
Rolene, I did finally get the email updated.
Pete, that Jimmy Rabbitt LP, was that the one co-credited with Renegade, and on Capitol Records?
Jimmy has a website with stories from the 60s and 70s, a good read, and about as gonzo as his radio persona.
My only grumble is that he cliams to be the first long-hair to wear a cowboy hat in Los Angeles!.. c'mon man, the freakin' Leaves (folk-rockers) were wearin' cowboy hats in '66
