I'm now a 2 year 'beginner' and I play with just a thumb pick. My picking fingers have long nails, so I figure finger picks are redundant.

I don't even like the feel of the TP really and it slips regularly, as well. I use a TP only because of my hand position and it enables me to strike the string accurately. I don't think I'd be able to cope with a fistful of metal though.

What's anyones view regarding long nails compared to picks?

Bobbe Seymour! You can't put Bobbe out there as the example. He's the rare exception. Hell... he's even been known play steel without fingers, but we ain't all linin' up to try that. I think they made him put the power tools away after that. ;-)

Hope all is well, Bobbster.

:D I met an awesome Steel player in Ft Collins Colorado around 1974 or 1975, his name was Larry Rollins and he played the fire out of it, He is also a monster Tele player, it hung around his neck and he would play half steel and half tele on most songs. Im told Dick Meese from Denver plays with a flat pick only. By the way anyone wants to set in on my steel better have his own picks. Cool Thread by the way.
