As much as I love Wynn Stewart's music, I thought his version kinda "sucked" a bit! Buck nailed it with his which included Ralph Mooney playing his killer stuff..........JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

So did Mooney also record the tune with Wynn Stewart? I think he probably would have been with him at the time. |

Jerry:
Not positive, but I think Wynn's version has Carl West on steel. Mooney was in and out of Wynn's sessions from 1956 on.
It is among Wynn's earlier performances for that label (Challenge) and I don't think Ralph showed up until later sessions (Wishful Thinking, Playboy, etc).
Wynn recorded it later on for Capitol with Jimmie Collins on steel.
Conway Twitty did a great version also when he was still a rocker, around 1961. Paycheck also did the tune in his Donny Young era. |

....and Rodney Crowell had a fine version of it as well. Late 80's I think. Here's a live version.....and some of you guys might know who's on steel:

"Hank DeVito on the steel." Rodney introduces him at 1:12, just as the solo starts! |
