marking pedal rods
I always had any rig labeled so anyone could set it up , no matter if it was my PA system or steel .Everything was color coded or tagged .On the very bottom of the rods I took a magic marker GREEN,RED,BLUE and the same on pedals .Once steel is set upright there is no sign of any marks visible .Same goes for legs ,I want the same leg used in the same position everytime .Just a good sized dot on leg & end cap , leg & pedal bar , rods, legs & rod bag .( oh man do I have a problem )
20-25 yrs ago I played with different bands usually having 2 jobs on Saturdays and often other people (usually my kids....thank God for slave labor) would have to get the 2nd gig of the day set up . Cords were color coded with jacks on amps/speakers .
I thought I was just an ***hole , but I guess I really am anal about my equipment
****when I got my last steel June2010...I pulled everything out of the case....scattered everywhere .
I rushed to set it up & when I tore it down I thought I'd double check & YES ,they were in order....I said this ain't happenin again...so I labeled everything !****

I had quit playing (Pedal Rod Lotto) since putting some black electrical on each rod at different heights, so I don't have to look at the numbers any more. The new MSA guitars don't have or need numbered pedal rods. They are all the same length. You adjust the height of the pedals from the little adjusting wheels that raise and lower the pedals.
When I got my first Millennium, it took me lees than 5 minutes to set up all the pedals and knee levers the way I like them.

Mike, maybe MSA would consider making the rods somehow unique for each pedal as a 'custom' option to allow 'Pedal Rod Lotto' participation???? at a slight up-charge of course.

I thought I was beating the odds because, with 5 rods, I know I pulled them in order at least twice last year. Then I realized that there are two winners: 1 2 3 4 5 and 5 4 3 2 1. I believe the correct question formulation is "how many ways can you pull eight items, eight at a time?". I worked it out for 2,3, and 4 rods and it follows the factorial pattern (i.e. eight factorial is 1 x 2 x 3 x 4 x 5 x 6 x 7 x 8 = 40320)
2 rods = 2 ways = 1 x 2
3 rods = 8 ways = 1 x 2 x 3
4 rods = 24 ways = 1 x 2 x 3 x 4
5 rods = 120 ways = 1 x 2 x 3 x 4 x 5
6 rods = 720 ways = 1 x 2 x 3 x 4 x 5 x 6
7 rods = 5040 ways = 1 x 2 x 3 x 4 x 5 x 6 x 7
8 rods = 40320 ways (you get the pattern by now... )
ps: I cheated and put labels on my 3 rods with a Brady labelmaker with big type.

Pedal Rod Lotto-An update
MSA look under the hook on the rod of the old MSA guitars, there is a number metal stamped on each rod. My old MSA has 3 rods numbered and a Franklin 4th that has a different hook and no number. Was added later I expect. Just how old the MSA is, and you can gamble to. Good Luck Happy Steelin
