In April, my wife and I will be going on a cruise in the Hawaiian Islands for our 30th anniversary. I would love to hear some authentic Hawaiian steel while over there. Anyone have any suggestions as to where to go to hear some good Hawaiian Steel music.

Hi John,
The most authentic traditional steel playing is at Luaus. The Old Lahaina Luau (Lahaina, Maui) and the Polynesian cultural center on Oahu have the most authentic luaus I've been too after years spent in the islands. Danny, after years of long visits I am finally moving over to Kauai in a couple of weeks and will be the island;s resident PSG player, I know a couple of non-pedal players. Drop me a line and let me know when you are coming over.

Jim

We were just on Oahu recently. Went to the Halekulani for sunset mai tais (maybe the best in the world, if ya like mai tais) and there was a very good trio playing, steel, bass, guitar....doing Hawaiian tunes. The highlight, though was very authentic hula.....beautiful dancing, wonderful rum drink, steel guitars are a playin, while she's talkin with her hands.......
