My first resolution for this year has to be to get a recording to Bobby Lee for our CD while there's still time.

I resolved to compose more of my own music

Well that resolution begins here with a composition called Threads of Silver, I hope you give it a listen and maybe enjoy.

What I hope to do is to structure my practice in more efficient ways, and get a better grip of theory.

Nice James! Interesting steel you have. How was it recorded?

Jeff,
The backing was made here on computer using various Music software programs, and the steel was recorded using the Zoom h2 Digital recorder in the pictures, I play the Lap Steels (of which I have many) through the Vox Amps shown.

1. Get the swing band out and gigging!!!
2. Continue with year 2 of the 3 year drive to become an actual swing / gypsy jazz musician.
3. Play out at every opportunity, regardless of time/pay (part of item 2)
4. Find a project in which to play swing dobro/lap steel (not to be confused with item 1)

My goals are to play more and better. Start with simple goals and stick to them.

Ditto, Brad.

As a guitarist of 40+ years, I'm just one year into this lap steel adventure.

I started with 6-string C6, and thought I was getting on pretty well.

My eyes got bigger than my belly, and I now have an 8-string. I thought it was going to be an easy transition, but it's not - which makes me even more determined.

Cindy Cashdollar and I are going to be spending some time together over the next few months. Thankfully my new Melbert Pro is such a joy to play, it won't be much of a hardship :)

Amen, Bro! 2 extra strings changes more than you'd think! But I figure there's a payoff...

Super James, very ethereal, you should compose more. I love the contrast betwixt the close miked dry percussion and the dreamy reverbed steel.

Thank you Basil, I will try to continue with this composing and I really appreciate you taking time to listen and comment here.

Very nice tune and performance James, put me in a "Twin Peaks" mood (loved the tremolo guitar). You should put it up as a seperate thread so more people will notice it..

Excellent James. Echoes of the music from Twin Peaks in there.

Nice James...the steel voice reminds me a lot of Steve Hackett in older Genesis music.

Thank you everyone for listening and making a comment, I feel the Twin Peaks vibe too and like that kind of thing, that was where I was aiming, better fit a thicker set of strings to the Strat.

I'm just about to begin building a Pink Steelocaster so who knows where that will take me.

James.

James, I second all the things said so far about your composition and recording. I would like to add a note about the bass. It is really beautiful and becomes part of the music instead of sounding as if someone is just playing along. So many recordings (and gigs) have intrusive bass with the burp-burp attack of too much power.
