Anyone ever tried a Crate CA-1PD Accoustic Preamp for steel? Info on it is pretty sketchy at best! But it seems to have plenty of EQ control with built in effects.

Hey David
I was using two of these with a Peavey power amp for fiddle and mandolin and they work great. There is a settings for different pickups (acoustic or electric)
and a direct out the back. I'm only using one now and
was gonna be parting with one after the New Year. I
can get it to a steel guy and let him try just for
curiosity sake. Hope your Christmas was good.

Charlie, thanks for the info. If you're able to do that please let me know the findings. I'm always into experimenting with unusual gear and may be in the market for one.

Hey David
I took the pre amp to a buddy's house today and was very suprised with the result. He went direct from the steel to the pre amp then to a Peavey Nashville 112. At first it was on Active mode and the bass and mids hade to be cut and highs added. Then I switched to Piezo mode and it had more power and was able to run it flat and got a pleasant sound. The built in delay -reverb- chorus is easy to use and had a clean sound. Hope this helps.
Happy New Year to ya.

Thanks Charie! I really appreciate you going thru all of that trouble just to answer a question for me! Wish everyone was that giving of a person my friend. I may explore one of these in the future just to see what I can make out of it. Please let me know if I can help you with anything on this end.
