Anyone know of a steel players group or show local to the Southern Michigan area? If not, what is the nearest group or association I can contact?

I don't know of a Michigan group but that doesn't mean there isn't one. You may want to contact Lefty Scrage. He handles the NE Iowa Association. Not sure how far that is from you. There's a thread on the Forum about an upcoming show (2/25 & 2/26) in Waterloo. Maybe you can check it out if it's not too far for you. Here's Lefty's email address: lefty@alpinecom.net

Good luck!

John-Thanks for the post and I hope something can get going again here in Michigan.

Lana-Thanks for responding to John's post.

LT. Zinn and Evelyn Whitney have had an excellent show here in Grand Rapids with a lot of top notch players, etc. for many years. And I Wish to thank them for all those years.

How about some of you young michigan guys try to start up one again. Lt.Zinn and Evelyn , I am sure could give you some excellent advice....Al....

John. The Michigan Steel Guitar Association put on a steel show here last summer featuring Herby Wallace and Mike Sigler, as well as many other players from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and some of the local guys from here in Michigan. We also do a few jams here each year in addition to our annual Christmas party jam. We will probably be putting on another steel show here again this summer. There is also an annual steel guitar jam held every October in Trufant, Michigan. There's a lot going on here, and much more to come, so keep checking here now and then for announcements. If you would like to keep informed of all the Michigan events on a regular basis, you might want to consider joining the M.S.G.A. For more info on that, contact Marilyn Myers at: picngrin@michweb.net

John:
You won't get Marilyn until later this week. She and Jaxie Hartman are down here in sunny Florida enjoying the sunshine and doing a lot of picking...See my post "ManaSota Steel Club Jam."
There are some great pickers up there and I am sure you can get some good things going with them.

Danny-thanks for the information and update, I am glad to hear that.We missed you in Trufant last year.

I always go to Trufant, which is a jam where Everybody Plays, in the 2nd Sunday in October.Every one is welcome to play.

Last year, Lt.Zinn, SGHOF inductee, was there and still playing as beautifully smooth as ever.
I brought my Pro 1 S10 with 6/5 thanks to John Coop, Ed Naylor and my good friend Fred Welch.
I played "Here's that Rainy Day", "The nearness of you" and "Unforgettable" on my E6 tuning. That was fun.

John- I hope someone will have a show as Lt.Zinn used to put on right here in Lower Michigan. As Danny mentioned there is a summer show around Houghton Lake in north Michigan. There used to be a show around Toledo , ohio near the Mighigan border. Lansing has always been a good town for steel guitar.....al
