Your poll doesn't have enough options. I don't use the built in programs or any "sweetened" programs in my Strobe O Flip. I program my own settings, which are a modified Newman settings, referenced to "zero". But I do tune the E9th 4th and 8th strings (E) to +2 cents as a slight compromise for cabinet drop.
I use the user "T" locations for my programs. |

I also tune to 440 but use my modified Newman settings.
I use the sweetened setting because it compensates for the inacuracies of the standard spacing of notes.
I also set my E's to +1.9.

Roger, I have mine formatted in MS Word. I'll have to recreate it without the formatting characters.
I'll get it later or e-mail me and I'll send you my MSWord file copy. |

I have always used the OE9 setting and been very pleased with the results. I just discovered the SE9 setting, which must be the 9 plus cents sharp setting. That seems to overcompensate for cabinet drop. I could understand splitting the difference or tuning the full extent of the cabinet drop; but not tuning sharper than necessary. Why would you want to tune that sharp?
Why doesn't the tuner have the same choices for C6th? I can only find SC6; not OC6. Does that mean the Cs on the C6th are sharp in similar fashion? Just curious. |

Yes Paul, the C's are also 9.8 cents sharp as I recall on the SC6 setting. If you read the manual, I'm pretty sure they explain how to bring any sweetened tuning up or down to where you want it. And if you've lost the manual, just call them up and they'll help you out. |

I use my own settings but they are very close to the sweetened I bet...
I tune my open E's to 0
I play a bunch of stuff in E and do a lot of pull off and hammer on's so I like my E's to be as close to the band as possible.... |

For years I used my own modified Newman tuning on both necks (long story). The open Es came to about 1.5 hz sharp after tuning them to 440 with pedals down with my Korg WT-12 tuner. I have since used the strobo-flip in the E9-0 setting. I had to reprogram the C6 sweetened tuning to get something similar using the owners manual and some basic math. I've been very pleased with the sound. It's easy to use on stage and haven't had any (many?) complaints. |

As questioned the Cabinet drop is off topic so I have deleted my 2 cents opinion as b0b has so rightly quoted.

I won't argue that point as it's off topic for this discussion.
Tuning the E's 9.8 cents sharp would only make sense if they drop 9.8 cents when you press the A+B pedals. That's a lot of &!@# drop. Most of the guitars I've owned have &!@# drop in the 3 to 6 cent range.
Also, readings in tenths of a cent are absurd IMHO. The human ear can't hear 1/10 of a cent. Most of us can't hear differences of less than 2 cents, which is why we give our opinions as 2 cents.
I'm genuinely surprised at how many respondents use the StroboFlip +9.8 cents setting. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
