Why do BLACK PSG's sound better?

I will have to admit that black pedal steel guitars sound best ! Except for one. The guitar below sounds better and plays faster than any black steel guitar. Herby Wallace certified it and who knows fast better than Herby ? You know I would never lie about my own guitar.

Black is simply such an elegant color. It looks and sounds good in any setting. Goes great with pearls and pumps.

The psychedelic picture I posted earlier is an example of Fractal art. I don;t know anything about it, other than that it's based on some rocket-science kind of math, but the art itself is often very beautiful. There are countless examples here:

Mike, you'll find that fractal geometry is described as "self-affine". That's the only place I've found the term used other that with respect to tire tread designs. The only definition I've found for "self-affine" has to do something with an image that looks like itself.

Actually the formula for the Mandelbrot Set (your picture) is extremely simple, well within the Jethro Bodine benchmark, and can be a fun diversion to play with if you are learning to program your computer. The only problem is that it takes a lot of computer time/power to go deep into the set.

Scientific studies have shown that the sonic characteristics of a black push pull being played through a non-master volume Twin Reverb with JBLs keeps the skin supple and youthful looking.

However, the same studies show that the sound of a lacquer round front Sho~Bud played through a Session 400 promotes cardiovascular health and boosts libido.

So... you guys have some decisions to make.

I already look like hell, so I'm sticking with my Sho~Bud and Session 400.

My first example was a joke, but in all seriousness, I think any one of these designs in the center of the front apron of a black steel would be very attractive.

i had an s10 emmons in the early seventies. it was black with the chrome trim and chrome fretboard lines. during one trip on LSD while playing the steel, i hallucinated that i was driving a cool hotrod through mexico. i now relate this phenomenon to the fact that the classic rod is black or flat black with shiny chrome trim and the acid tinge comes from the mescal plant found in mexico. any comments? i'm clearly back to norbal now!

obviously, mike has experienced this same phenomenon. i like #1 best... and #4. anyone who has delved into the world of LSD and Psilocybin has the electric purple hue imbedded into their gray matter for eternity.

But getting back on topic, color doesn't affect the tone, but it can affect the player. (I find bright yellow to be very irritating would not play well on a guitar that color.)

I think the instrument's appearance is part of the performance. Black steels look very elegant. But so do steels in many other colors. Personally, I think Jim Palenscar's blue MSA legend with mother of pearl inlay is just about the best looking steel guitar I've ever seen. If I had the bucks, I'd get one just like it. I also like the way Archie Nichole's burgundy Millennium looks, and have seriously thought about sending my white Milly back to MSA to have it repainted. (Turns out it's a bad idea for several reasons, and I decided not to do it.)
