Don't know if the general steel population are aware of this so though I'd pass some info on Dick Gimble's fake books that are available through him. I have all three and they're great. He's using the number system to chart out literally hundreds of western swing and standard tunes. I've had his first two, Swingin' Numbers and Western Swingin' Numbers for a while. But just received a really great one called Standards by the Numbers. It has appox 250 songs all charted out from "After you've Gone" to "When it's sleepytime down south".
He's even got songs like All the things you are charted. Its an amazing book as are all three plus a book on bass playing.

You can go to Dick Gimble's web site at www.dickgimble.com for more info. I don't think the newest book "standards by the number" shows on his website yet, but it's only 20 bucks + 2 dollars shipping. These books are just too good. I had to share!

Mr. Franco,

What are some of the songs on Western Swinging Numbers? It looks like a book that I'd be interested in.

Thank you,

Ian

Right or wrong
Roly Poly
Rosetta
Sugar Moon
San Antonio Rose
Texas Playboy Rag
Time Changes evertthing
Won't you ride in my little red wagon

Hi, You might talk to Dick- I really want to order the Standards by numbers book, sounds like it's right up my alley. It shows on his site, but clicking "add to cart" only directs me to my own PayPal page, his cart appears not to be working. I'll try another day, but looks like something's not functioning on his site.

I totally agree with my great friend Wayne Franco. Dick Gimble's books are great, accurate and very well done. I use them all the time when teaching and writing charts. It's a marvelous advantage to have hundreds of songs that can be accessed immediately. I believe these books are a must for all steel players, and I recommend them 100%.

I would like some of the books but his site is not all that easy to navigate. It takes me to my Paypal log in but does not add books to the cart. Am I doing something wrong?

The answer to that is a resounding YES, just after Beaumont Rag and just before Bill Bailey. I especially like the split chords where is tells the bass player what note to play. Just looking at Bye Bye Blackbird, in the fifth bar there's a 1/3. Things like that show how articulate he charted these songs.

I had this guy come up to the band stand at a jam and said lets play Mack the Knife. I looked in the a couple of the books I had knowing that wouldn't be in there. Low and behold there it was in Swingin Numbers. Wow was that helpful. I've never played that song in my life!

Thanks Reece for the nice comments!

Got a call from Marilyn Gimble, she said the new web site had only been up since last friday. The developer looked into the reported problem and I think it works fine now. I tried it myself and it worked for me. Hope this helps.

I have tried this website for a few days now, and can not navigate it. I wish there was a phone number to call as another way to contact. Any ideas?

I just bought two of their books. But... When you click on the Western Swinging by the numbers book, it sends the Bottom Line book to your check out. Other then that it worked.

Yeah, that's part of the problem. I want the Wesrern Swinging book, and it wants to send me the bass/Bottom book.
Also, I do not seem to be able to order the Standards book.
If tey ever get the website working better, it would be nice to view the table of contents of the books.
