The other day I was looking at the "My Pictures" section of my computer and was going to change the Wallpaper so I clicked on a photo and did it just as I've done many times before.
The wallpaper changed but the picture was very large so that just a portion of it covered the entire screen. I tried a couple of other shots with the same results each time. My wallpaper is now about 2/3 of the body of a Epiphone Sheraton guitar.
This is a new computer I've only had a little over a month. It's an HP touchsmart 310 PC. What could I have done to make this happen and how can I fix it? I haven't tried to post a photo to the Forum since this happened so I'll try one to this post and see what it does........Thanks for any help JH in Va.
I see that it posted OK....... _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Nice guitar! And with two palm pedals!
There should be some settings that affect the photos used as desktop wallpaper. Look in the Display Options (Control Panel or rt-click on desktop & select Properties).
For instance, in XP, the Display Properties have a tab labeled Desktop, where I can choose any background image to be wallpaper. There is a flyout Positions button on the right with selections for Center, Tile , or Stretch. Try changing it to Center and see if that fixes the problem. _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Jerry:
What operating system are you using?
The pic as I see it shows the entire guitar but I assume when the pic is used as wallpaper, part of the body or neck are cut off?
What is your chosen screen resolution in pixels? 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, or???
What are the stated dimensions of the picture when you open it up in your photo editor?
From your description, it appears that you have a screen resolution of something like 800 x 600, but the photo is larger than that, such as 1024 x 768, and therefore only part of it is visible--like when looking through a keyhole you can't see the whole room.
If your screen resolution is 800 x 600, then a wallpaper picture has to be close to 800 x 600 to be entirely visible.
So you need to need to make the size of your wallpaper pictures match your screen resolution. Change one or change the other.
How you do that depends on your operating system and photo editor.
As Wiz says, you have some degree of control with the tile/center/stretch controls and they may have gotten changed somehow. Those controls might leave the wallpaper distorted or might leave margins you don't want.
In Windows 7, you change the screen resolution with a right click and then choosing "screen resolution" from the menu.
Did this picture ever display properly as wallpaper on this new computer?
Do you change wallpaper with the mouse, or do you have a dedicated wallpaper program?
With Windows 7, you can put a bunch of pictures in a folder and Windows will automatically change them for you according to your chosen schedule. Mine changes every 3 hours. I have about 100 photos in the folder.
Again--what operating system are you using? |

I have Windows 7 on this new computer. It was working OK for awhile and I changed the Wallpaper two or three times but the last time I changed it the very large picture came up on it and I couldn't get it to return to normal size. The way I've been changing wallpaper is just to go to "My Pictures" and right click on a photo and then click on "Set as Wallpaper" and it's been working fine but now the large photos have set in.........
Also, when I click on a photo and then click on "Edit", I also get a very large photo, that was also happening on my previous PC.....Thanks, JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Jerry , open your desktop screen... the screen when you first boot up .
where you wall paper is showing... right click and choose properties.
choose the desktop tab .. there is a button where you will probably see "stretched" , other choices are tile, center.. etc.. this is where you the pix you have used for desktop are usually changed. |

Jerry:
The first step to wallpaper control in Windows 7 is to right click your desktop and choose personalize.
Do that. Do you see a “desktop background” choice at the bottom of that screen?
If you do, poke it.
That will bring up a window where you set up wallpaper. You choose the folder where your wallpaper resides in the “picture location” box. In your case that would be “My Pictures”. Navigate to it. All the pictures in that folder should appear in a window on your screen. Choose "select all" to put a checkmark in the little box next to each picture.
Notice the “picture position” box. The choice you make in this box affects how pictures display.
Then click on “save changes” at the bottom of the screen.
Here are some wallpaper screenshots of an F4U Corsair. Actual picture size is 1200 x 812. My screen resolution is 800 x 600. Note how the “picture position” choice affects what you see on screen:
Corsair using the “fit” picture position: this is the whole picture, about what you would see if you just opened it up.
Corsair using the “tile” picture position:
Corsair using the “center” picture position:
Here is Ella Mae Morse showing what happens if you have a small vertical format picture as wallpaper using the "tiled" choice:
Here is a Chrysler 300-F that is only 600 wide using the "centered" choice on an 800 wide screen resolution:
Just guessing, I’d guess your guitar picture is larger than your actual screen resolution (just like the Corsair is 1200 wide and I have an 800 wide resolution) and it is set to display as “tile” or “center”, when it should be set at “fit” or “fill”.
You can set up automatic wallpaper rotation from that same screen using "change picture every" box.
You can change to another wallpaper manually by right clicking your desktop and choosing "next desktop background".
Do some experimentation with the choices as noted above. |
