Deleting favorites on explorer eight

I have too many favorites in my list. Is there a faster and easier way to thin them out than selecting and deleting one at a time ? Like for example : many items in other programs you can select several by holding the shift button but favorites won't allow that. I wonder, if nothing else, could I create a new folder in favorites, then drag and drop the ones I want gone then delete the folder ? Any help appreciated. Bill.

I have XP. The favorites are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\(Your profile name)\Favorites. You can select any combination and delete what ever you want.
