Recently I was looking for my favorite current classic country singer Jake Hooker on the You Tube videos, when I got a big bonus of Rick Price being shown playing his Emmons Push-Pull in Jake's band. I'm thinking these must be recent videos & what is interesting is it showing a steel players out-look on what type of steel he prefers. Also, a recent thread talked about how Rick had owned a special-order Zum at one time. So, I'm taking it that he went back to the Emmons? I remember that I met Rick back in the early 80's & he had an Emmons Push-Pull--I'm wondering if this is the same guitar he had then. I'd sure like to know his thoughts on this, but as long as I've been on the Forum, I don't remember him responding at all, about anything. Anyone know if he's a member? Anyone seen Rick play at all, I guess in the San Antonio/Dallas area, talked to him & can relay his thoughts on how he feels about the various steels? |

Rick's been a member since 2009 and has posted 3 times. If you do a search on his name you will see those posts, and can even send him an email. _________________ Best regards,

I recently saw and talked to Rick. I was up at Fort Worth, TX about a month ago to pick up my new steel built by Gary Carpenter - Rains. I was in Gary's shop and it was just Gary, Rick and I. We talked a while, and he did have an old Push/Pull he was there getting some parts for, but we really didn't talk about that particular guitar. We chatted mostly about his gigs with Jake Hooker and mine down in South Texas. He told me he was living in San Antonio and gave me his phone number(s). Good guy. _________________ Rains D-10 by Gary Carpenter |

I have heard that Rick has a favorable opinion of the Zum Hybrid. If you read on the Zumsteel site, Bruce says that he is not claiming the Hybrid sounds exactly like a push pull, but many pro players have said that it definitely captures some of those distintive characteristics. I think the advantage is that you would have a guitar with modern mechanics and Zums look good too. |

Owen, those parts were actually for my guitar. Gary made some knee levers for me and boy, are they beautiful! Butch, Rick really likes the Zums and played one at one time but he is definitely an "Emmons guy" these days and does indeed ply his craft on an old push/pull. A '66 Bolt-on to be exact, though he might also be seen with a lovely mid-70's laquer body one as well. The rig he uses with Jake consists of a pair of Evans FET500's and rack mouted reverb. He also recently scored another mint laquer body Emmons, also mid 70's which he's reworking, after he finishes mine, ofcourse! hope this helps..... oh! and Rick is not a forum member but he does check it out regularly. |

Here's a couple of shots I took of Rick at Pearl's Dancehall in Fort Worth. 2009 and 2010. Not much changed in a year.

He is one of my very favorite E-9 players. I really like his precise approach. I've listened and listened to the tracks he put on Bobby Flores' records. I never get tired of them. |

I got to visit with Rick at the Tru Country taping back in April. He is a super picker and a super person as well. His tone and precision was great!!! I hope he makes it to the Dallas show again in March! |

When I moved to Austin in the late 70's I needed some work done on my p/p. Buddy Miller hooked me up with Rick who invited me to his house, fixed my guitar and gave me the best advice ever "stop playin that thing like a Dobro" all for free! great guy. |
