Just wondering if anyone out there can give some advice on my RP? I have my first string not returning to the original stop, It is staying sharp do I adjust the spring on the endplate?? Counter or clockwise?? Also I notice that the raising knee levers have play side to side tightened the allen screws but still have play, is this normal?? Thanks |

Dale, strings not returning to pitch can be several things. The first is binding in the bushings at the center rail, or at the front apron retainer. The changer may also be suspect if it has been contaminated or improperly maintained with lubricants. If after tuning at the hex, the open string tuning is affected, that would be a pedal stop issue. If the string is in tune when you pull it, but fails to come back to rest where you tuned it, the spring for that string can be tightened to increase the return force. If you need further assistance we can discuss it on the phone....I'd be happy to help you.....Mick _________________ ARTIST RELATIONS: MSA GUITARS

Ok first thing.
It is a Royal Precision so there is no binding issue.
What the problem is, that your tuning nut is too tight and therefore not allowing the string to come back to its stop location, that is why it returns sharp.
First thing to do. Make sure the pull rod that attaches to the bellcrank is in the 4th hole on the 1st string. It would be the 4th one away from the cross rod or second from the end of the bellcrank. My guess is that you adjusted it to pull the full tone instead of the half and did not move the rod or give it more travel.
Second. It is a raise so the return springs have no effect on the way the string returns.
The first item is definitely the problem. You can download our owner’s manual on our website that will give you step by step directions on how to tune you guitar properly.

As for the play I need to know which direction you are talking about. From the front of the guitar to the back or to and from the changer. There is some play desired to maintain a 100% true return in the changer but, it should only be in one direction. As Mickey said you can either call or email for some personal help. Downloading and familiarizing yourself with the manual should help as well.
Thanks all. |
