I get the following error fairly often on my laptop with Vista.
WMI Provider Host stopped working and was closed down. A problem caused the application to stop working. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.
What is this?

| Do you have McAfee antivirus software? According to THIS it's a known McAfee SpamKiller problem. |

Never thought of doing a google on that error. Interesting stuff. Now for the real interesting part. I removed the McAfee that came on this computer (Dell Inspiron) well over a year ago. I use Trend Internet Security Pro. I just looked through Windows Explorer and the add/remove programs program in control panel. I can not find a hint of any McAfee programs. Could an entry in the registry have survived the uninstall of the McAfee programs?
Luckily, I don't notice any problems like the computer locking up or anything like that.
I did just look in Task Manager, and found the following in the SERVICES section:

Programs such as the McAfee, Norton and others do not completely "uninstall" and there are fragments around. In some cases the only way to 100% get rid of them is a complete new install.
Get the freeware version of Revo Uninstaller, what I use, as it will, (1) set a restore point, (2) run the program's uninstaller (3) search the registry and folders for left over items and allow you to delete them. This is much more complete than just running the program's uninstaller which can leave registry entries and even files in folders.
