If memory serves me correctly these were actually BMI's with an "Erickson" decal placed on them.

Built by Elvin Erickson in Gonvick, MN back in the 7os. Can't remember enough about them (I wasn't a steeler then) to say much, but they apparently were solid instruments. He made a couple palm pedal units for me and Dan Lund for our sixstrings. Wouldn't make more, because he was afraid they infringed Bigsby's patent.

The point of writing that is that he had machinist's skills. But he might have used some BMI parts; I don't know. He was a nice fellow.

You are correct! Elvin Erickson ( now passed away) lived in
Gonvick, MN and I owned two of his guitars. The first one
was a single 10 with 3x4. It was a very solid guitar that really
stayed in tune and had good tone. I remember going to Elvin
one day and asking him about building me a 12 string. At first,
he didn't want to build a 12 string, but I eventually talked him
in to building his first 12 string on a wide body with a small
half sized black pad. It was extended tuning with 5x5 and
beautiful black lacquer finish with mother of pearl inlay. I
sold that guitar many years ago now.

Later he worked out some kind of deal with BMI as he sold
a few single neck BMI guitars with the Erickson logo on them
but I am not sure when he stopped that.

Elvin was a great guy, a perfectionist and a good player
who played out locally in the Northern MN area. He had
A booth as Scotty's for several years. If you are interested
I might be able to find some photos of my old guitars.

Blessings, Albert
