Blue Herco Thumpicks Info Needed?

I found a small stash of blue Herco thumbpicks. Can anyone tell me how to determine the older Hercos from the newer/current versions? Also,what year did these picks change in the way they were made? Any Herco experts out there, thanks for the help.

Sounds like the darker blue are the older ones. I have a few light and a few that are darker.

Can't get them around here. I think the closest is a music store in Chatham, ON. My grand daughter broke my only one

I use the blue or red ones , I think the reds are by Dunlop .. they seem completely interchangeable to me.

Heres what I got

Dunlop owns Herco these days.....

Light Blue = Herco Flex 52 - still available

Red = Dunlop Delrin Thumbpick - still available

Old Dark Blue = Herco purchased in 1982 buy original owner of my MSA Uni

Thats all I know.....

The new/er HE-115or HU-115 picks, aren't the same as the old original Herco picks.

Also watch out for bootleg Herco picks. They have very rough, sharp edges, from being stamped out, and they are not Herco, but would appear to be if not knowing the difference.

The Lt Blue Herco Flex 52 seem to be much the same as the old originals

Although I am using Jeff Newman thumb picks right now, I have an old dark blue "bug a blue" thumb pick left over from several I got from Emmons in the late 70's.

I also have some newer Herco lighter blue thumb picks and it is easy to feel the difference betweeen the two. The older pic is noticeably different from the new ones.

As others have said, they feel stiffer and more responsive. If I could find a couple more I might go back to them.

A recurring fear/experience I have about things is that once I find something I really, really like, they stop making it or introduce a "new and improved" version very unlike the old model no longer available.

I do believe Ron Lashley Sr. was the guy who designed the original. Walter

Wow... I can't believe I just measured picks .... I really should be practicing

Red Dunlops where the most inconsistent samples measured 1.3 to 1.5 mm at the tip

Light Blue Herco measured more consistent 1.26 to 1.31 mm

I only have one Dark Blue Pick it ran ... 1.15mm

Any Local music store should be able to order both red and light blue in bags of 12 ... If your local shop deals with Harris Teller or any other Dunlop Distributor they can order them for you.

Bent, I'll give you my blue herco as I am using my fred kelly's pick. I can always get another one when I go to Chatham next with the family. I have those GHS strings for you to try as well.

Bent...you can get them from Al Brisco, check on his website the're advertised there, i ordered some 2 weeks ago.
