You're personal attack upon my character and credibility is damnably unwarranted and I resent the hell out of it!
If you have read ANY of my posts concerning tone and sustain in the PSG over the last couple of years then you would have recognized a recurring theme: - NO ONE KNOWS WHAT CONTRIBUTES TO THE INHERENT SONIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PSG. I have done everything but beg and plead for someone, anyone, to do the research and uncover the underlying secrets. Does this sound like someone who is totally disinterested in what makes the PSG tick? Do my posts requesting information concerning the advantages/disadvantages of an S12 or D12 over a D10 sound like someone who has put his D10 into a glass case and is a lifeless wannabe? Have you ever - ever - read any of my posts or are you so stuck on yourself that no one - including me - matters in the least? Have you ever - ever - read any of the back and forth responses between Ed Packard and myself concerning his work in analyzing the sonic characteristics of over 30 instruments? Have you ever - ever - read the posts by Georg Sortun and myself regarding the same subject? Have you EVER seen me post a disparaging word about any particular instrument but, rather, acknowledge that they all have distinctive characters?
READ THEM, DAMN IT! THEN tell me that I'm not truly interested in those things which makes a PSG the truly remarkable instrument that it is!
You won't, of course, because then you would have to refute and retract your statements above and admit that you were wrong! I seriously doubt that your ego would allow such a retraction. And therein lies something of which you are apparently oblivious to: - The fact that your writing demeanor and attitude would lead one inexorably toward the conclusion that this whole thing is about Rusty Rhoads and less about unearthing some truths surrounding the PSG.
I have been a pretty decent jazz guitarist for most of the last 50 years. Most, because old age and arthritis creeping in have diminished my talents considerably. I know theory and harmony. I'm busting my butt to bring all of that experience to the playing of the steel guitar before my time is up.
Does this sound like someone who is just whining and not making an effort to further the cause? Not a chance!
I have made some constructive criticisms concerning your methodology. They are valid and born of my years in a research laboratory. You would be well to retrench, rethink and revise your strategy so as to make the outcome above and beyond reproach. This, you will not do. You insist upon tooting your own horn and condemning anyone with a different point of view. You refuse to acknowledge that there are, indeed, a plethora of variables in your approach and have made absolutely no attempt to rectify any within reasonable reach. Read the last interplay between Ed Packard and myself. Contained therein is another nugget or two which should be part and parcel to your scheme.
In failing to read - REALLY read - the posts of the members you miss out on the opportunity to improve upon your quest. If you really read my posts then you would realize that I never, ever, condemned the idea of comparing various and sundry instruments but, rather, made observations as to some things which would make the process less reliable. You promptly jumped all over me - and others - by declaring that there WERE NO VARIABLES. Hogwash! There ARE variables which will render your whole effort completely useless unless corrected. You purport to be an intelligent person but the rigidity in your stance belies that persona.
I'm going to test your strength of character. You owe me an apology. We'll see if one is forthcoming.

has it exactly right on the money enough said he said as simple as could be said and yet i head whining galore no one is ever satisfied on this forum unless there the expert i think playing the instrument since i was five without pedals i am qualified to say what is and what is not seeing i am a pro and a tone expert you guys are the judge at the end of the tunnel i am just the driver getting to whole thing together while everyone else pitches a B---- some claiming they know more about steel guitar then i do unless you have tore one apart and know what makes it tick then you don't really have a clue what adds to tone or takes it away
or why it even stays together in some cases i have seen like my D10 emmons 2 i bought new at seymours it was dead between 11 n 14th fret and 2 bottom strings on the c6th would not hold tune it got rid of it rather then go through it and fix it
it was a piece of junk period !

jim thanks for that offer but i have enough steels to test in both places either nashville or detroit mucho gracias lol trying spanish do we have any mexican steel players in mexico ?
and richard sorry you took it the wrong way but i did ask a ligit question and your blowing it up to a different level i hope to uncover most of everyone's questions by this test as best as i can do the test .
no one has ever did it to the level i am going to do it that i have ever seen in 41 years of playing the dam cheese slicer care for a piece while i am cutting some ?

Neat picture. Back when the whole place looked and smelled a lot better. I showed up for a week in 2005 and It sure has changed from what we see in that picture. I wouldn't take my dog into Tootsies. Not that one I went to anyhow.

Hey Rusty. That pic brings back some fond memories for me when I was there back in the early 70's. Do happen to remember about what year it was when this was taken?
It's a great reminder of just how much things have changed, not only in Nashville, but just about everywhere. Some good, some not so good.

I've been constipated through this whole topic and now when it's almost over the laxative is beginning to work so I don't think I should head out to
WON'TTELLYOU, KAN'TTALKY USA (somewhere between Nashville and/or Detroit)
to witness this (no words could do it justice) PSG tone test.
If it hadn't been for that I would have taken a dump right at the beginning of this topic.
Sorry I just started writing and my subconscious took over and I lost control at both ends.
I've been constipated through this whole topic and now when it's almost over the laxative is beginning to work so I don't think I should head out to
