I don't look in this section often, so I just saw this now. My only knowledge of Al was through his posts on the Forum, but like everyone else I always valued his knowledge and, more so, his attitude of sharing, his intellectual curiosity, his open-mindedness, and his true embodiment of the spirit of friendship with all.
RIP.
RIP.

Re: Al Marcus, My Grandpa, Has Passed Away
I am so sorry to hear of Al's passing. Steel guitar certainly was a major part his life, and he'll be deeply missed. My condolences to all his family. I have only just seen this thread. May he R.I.P.

I and my wife, Margaret wish to extend our most sincerest Condolences to Al's Grandson and familyfor having shared your grandpa with we members of the forum. I, for one have had the deepest respect for this man; When I joined the forum just a few years ago, Mr. Al was the very first person whom welcomed me to the " Forum ". and always sent a welcome to many new comers to our great club.. You will be missed so much, my dear friend..May you rest in peace..Regards..Bernie..

I, also will miss Al. He was a good man and loved the forum. Me and him talked on the phone a few times and he always had nice comments about everyone on his posts and I loved reading his posts. He truly was a GRAND OLD MAN-BUT YOUNG AT HEART UNTIL THE END!! God has him in the pedal steel section of his band now.
GOD BLESS YOU AL

a late addition
Just finished reading the posts on the loss of Al.
Al and I shared a few emails and Al shared photos of himself with small groups in the early years.
His experiences that he described to me were so similar
to mine it was as if we might have been in the same group together although, mine was on a much smaller scale geographically.
He sent me a copy of one of their dance programs that contained virtually every tune that we played on a regular basis with the very first band I worked with.
I'm sure it was very similar to the programs of all us older players.
As others have expressed here Al, wish I could have know you better and on a more personal basis.
My condolences to all those you left behind but thanks to God above, you will be together again.
As I am fondly remembering you once again today others are also, and you will always be remembered.
The Lords Peace to all your family.

Sad
I respected AL. I am sad. I pray for AL and his family.
What a reunion he must be having. When we have ours he will be one I seek out.

It has been over a year since Al left us. I was blessed to know him for many years. His home was a short distance off US 131 expressway and I would drop in on him from time to time. Al always treated everyone with the same respect regardless of financial or social standing. He was a softie when it came to steel pickers and music in general.
Those of us in the Michigan Steel Guitar Assoc. were privileged to hear him play at our jams and pick his brain about music.I know he is resting high up on that mountain.

Al Marcus was so kind and generous with his encouragement and praise of others, that he probably didn't realize how much of an impact he made on the steel-guitar world.
I first became aware of Al's reputation as a player decades ago, and I have been blessed to know him by our exchange of e-mails in recent years.
