While I still play my MSA a lot, the Emmons is now my main guitar.

I let a good friend talk me out of my first LG2 Jack Strayhorn built for me new and I kicked myself for selling it, but I recently got me another dandy from Roger Kelly and it has that great Emmons sound any fret you want to play at and is clean as can be even way up in Hughey land and stays in tune extremely well. In my opinion, about all brands of steels nowadays are fine instruments and well made, yet , an Emmons is an Emmons.

legrande 2

Post by Tom Cooper »

I have been playing for 5yrs on an Emmons Legrande 2 and have never had a problem with it. Always stays in tune, great tone. I got it used, it was 14yrs old when I got it from Jim Palenscar and it has never let me down. Really solid guitars. I have yet to have to fix anything. One day I need to learn to make pedal changes and such. I play mostly D8, but get called to play pedal steel at church all the time. I am really getting to appreciate and love my Legrande 2. It's got a mojo for sure. TC

You are very lucky if you can get one. and BTW, it is Le Grande with an "E". Don't ask why because we don't know.

The "e" in Le is the same reason for the "e" in Grande.

I'm sure we'll all agree that you can never have too much "e".

interestingly enough it was big e's idea to name the original emmons guitar 'le grande' in the first place. maybe that's why the e's...

My French teacher taught us that the 'La' refers to anything female and the 'Le' refers to anything male.

I am sure that has nothing to do with the name, "LeGrande". Perhaps it refers to the 'E' in Emmons.

Y'all ain't gonna believe this, but it's true: The guitar was named after the pianist/composer Michel Legrand.

I own a Lashley LeGrande, which is like a LeGrande II, only lacking about 450 bellcrank holes. ;)
My rig: Infinity and Telonics.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

I'm sure LeGrande is Spanish for "the grand".
Just like the river, Rio Grande, means the grand river.
