Doyle Huff and I began discussing the possibility of starting the "Oklahoma Steel Guitar Association" a couple years after Butch Fishwick shut down his steel guitar club. I consulted with DeWitt "Scotty" Scott the founder of the "International Steel Guitar Association" and the "Steel Guitar Hall of Fame" and we agreed to put together a steel guitar show in OKC to show the potential of starting an Oklahoma steel guitar club. In the mean time, Doyle began presenting the idea to other local steel players like Don Compston, John Buffington, Clovis Richards, Autry Ruttlidge and others and the concensus was to see how the OKC show would go before a decision was made to proceed with a full fledged club. I proceeded and with the help of Doyle, Bob Woods and Scotty, we had quite a nice show. Don Compston saw the potential and we had a founders meeting at his home shortly thereafter and formed the Oklahoma Steel Guitar Association. Doyle did not want the leadership roll and I was traveling all the time with my job, so we elected Don Compston as the President, John Buffington as the VP, me as Public Relations Director and Clovis Richards as the Secretary-Treasure. The rest is history.
Doyle was a faithful friend, a loyal steel guitarist and an example to his community.

Jerry I had the privilege of playing on that first show in OKC and I think every show in Tulsa. What I always saw in Doyle was a great big smile. He was usually setting at a table outside the door of the concert room and he would begin smiling when he saw us coming. He will be missed by many! What a wonderful "FRIEND" Doyle Huff and the Okla S/G Club have been to the SSSGC over the past twelve years.Doyle always treated me like a son and an equal, even in the beginning when I was just learning to play.Doyle and the OSGA have always been more than willing to support every activity that we had at the SSSGC.I will truly miss my "Special Friend" at our annual conventions.I always looked forward to attending the Tulsa covention so I could see my buddies and I will sure miss Doyle.

They don't come any better than Doyle. I will miss him very much. My prayers go out for Sue and the rest of his family.
