Southern Wis Steel Show/MDA Benefit Nov 27th

Post by James Leaman »

Well its less than 3 weeks until the 1st of hopefully
many shows.

We have a really nice lineup of players and a really
great house band. Also a really nice facility.

I hope you will all let the word out so we get a good
turnout. Please forward the website to all the folks you can.

This show is for Muscular Dystrophy, but we have our music featuring the beautiful steel guitar as the attraction!

Here is the website:

http://steelguitarbenefit.giving.officelive.com

Hope to see many of you there.

Thanks, Jim Leaman

Great Show

Post by Ronald Moore »

This was a great show, well organized by Jim Leaman and others, led by a great staff band, and featuring many great players. This was a beautiful venue, and the turnout was good for a first show. It will surely grow. I must thank Al Svendal for including Al Anderson and myself on one tune on his set, even though my pac-a-seat leg found the only hole in the stage and dumped me on the floor. We all had a good laugh on that one. Over all it was a good time and raised funds for muscular dystrophy. Jory Simmons and Al Anderson were among the lucky ones at the raffle. Thanks to everyone who had a hand it putting on this class event.Ron

I have to say I am very pleased with the show yesterday. It looks like we raised over $4000 for Muscular Dystrophy! It is so wonderful that the instrument we all love so much can be the vehicle to helping fight a terrible disease. Wow, I am tearing up right now writing about it.......

Ok, I am better now. I am going to try to thank all the people involved and if I miss anyone I apologise.

First the house band without which there would have been no show:

Joe Peterson-Drums
Roger Miller-lead guitar
Mark Wayne-bass
Glenn Runnels-fiddle
Ray Berggren-bass
Jim Jinkerson-keyboards
Rick McKay-drums
Jory Simmons-bass and lead

I want to thank all the great steel players who played their hearts out and had a blast doing it:

Bill McRoberts
Ron Moore
Jory Simmons
Kenny Knoll
Al Anderson
Ron Klein
Leroy Deuster
Mark Wayne
Al Svenddal
Roger Miller
TC Furlong
Yours Truly

I also want to thank Curt Steele and Kenn Anderson for playing in The Sawyer Road Band.

I want to thank the following companys in the steel guitar industry:

Mullen Steel Guitars
GFI
Williams Guitar Company
Peterson Tuners
Billy Phelps-Full Circle Sound

There were many very generous donors from my local area and I won't name them individually because they probably won't read this, but I certainly want to thank them.

Last but not least I want to thank Olympia Resort and owner Rick Eckert for the fantastic facility.

Before I left at the end of the night I polled as many participants as possible whether they would like to see this event happen next year and the response was unanamous and an enthusiastic yes! So barring anything unforseen, it should be a go next year.

Oh, I almost forgot. Some of you got to know her last night and without her this event never would have happened. I want to thank Laura Barnes!

Having said all this, another thing that really pleases me is that I know I made some new friends in the process...and that is priceless!!!

WOW!!!! What A great show!!!!

Post by Leroy Deuster »

It was a great show with great music and a house band that nailed everything. I really enjoyed all the players. I do think Roger Miller gets the MVP award for doing the fantastic job that he did, with little or no sleep and fighting a sinus infection. What a great guy! And the greatest topper of the whole show.. Raising over $4000 for Muscular Dystrophy! WOW!!! Very Cool!

Great Job! Jim for putting this all together. I'm looking forward to next year already

God's Blessings to all.

Leroy
