Check out my "Supro" score (also, info needed)

Post by Jerry Hayes »

An old fellow who comes to one of my weekly gigs told me he had a lapsteel I could have for $50 if I wanted it so I asked him to bring it to the next gig and he did last night! I thought that just about any lapsteel should be worth $50. Turns out it's a Supro single neck eight stringer! The thing is in almost mint condition without any big dings or scratches on it at all. All of the electronics work flawlessly with no noise.

Image What's nice too is between the volume and tone control there's a slide switch which bypasses the tone control. I think I'm going to put an E6th tuning of sorts on it as that'll be best for what I want to do with it on the gig. It'll be (high to low) E B G# E C# B G# E. I can retune the 5th string between C# and D as needed.

I was wondering if anyone had any info on these guitars and how old it might be and what it might be worth. The serial number is T85024. Here's some shots of it...........JH in Va.

For $50 I'd latch onto that baby in a hurry. I started out on a Supro some 50+ years ago. Don't remember much about it tho'.

Jerry--Nice find! You've got a 1962 "Console Eight" model. What's it worth?...quite a bit more than $50.

I saw one like that around 5 years ago, and it had legs also.
