I have for sale a 1981 Sho-Bud LDG-SP made in Conway, Arkansas. It was shipped 6/2/81 to Modern Music in Ft. Lauderdale Fla. It was checked by Yasu Kameya. The serial is # 16304 and was built 4/2/81.
It has the Emmons E-9 set-up with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers.
Last month Steel Guitar Nashville (Bobbe Seymour) removed, cleaned, and oiled the changer. And replaced with Premium Cobra Coil strings. Also a newly rewound pickup was installed earlier this year from James Morehead and it is the exact same as the original.
Included will be a new D2F cover and leg bag.
Of course it has a few minor dings between the pad and neck, but very small. And a little nick below the LDG-SP logo. I didn't notice it until about a month after I bought it. Light has to hit it just right to even see it. The case is in very good shape too.
I bought it last October, and I have been very satisfied with it.
The price is now $1850 shipped US only...sorry no trades.

Tommy....Please excuse this hijacking of your post but would like to ask; It was my understanding that the "SP" designation under the "LDG" was to identify models that were finished in colors other than green, obviously this is incorrect?
There's another thread here somewhere that has info about this...
The conclusion was that "SP" meant "Special Paint".
Seems like someone who used to work at Sho-Bud brought forth that bit of info.
Personally, I like the idea of it meaning "Super Pro". Sounds cooler.
At any rate, they are super cool guitars. I love mine.

Early on I had suggested this might be a commercially viable instrument for Sho-Bud to fill the gap between a pure single neck and a double neck. Shot's and David's first response was that this was a looney idea, that is, until they started getting all those folks wanting one. Suddenly it was a brilliant idea! I was back in the fold.
In my contract signed with Sho-Bud in 1973 outlining royalty amount per guitar sold, design, color, etc. it is clearly stated that all LDGs (David Jackson's and my appellation) will (would) be of a dark green color. For those who wanted the LDG model, but in a different color, an additional two letters would be added under the "LDG"; SP. SP stands for special paint, nothing more. I would still receive royalties but the color could be any choice.
There were, indeed, 25 to 30 LDGs built at a time and there may have been a few mixed colors of special orders among them, but all LDGs not green would have been labeled SP.
Now, there are a number of counterfeit LDGs of various colors out there that were built after Fred Gretsch acquired Sho-Bud from the Baldwin corporation. Counterfeit being any that weren't built by the Gretsch Corp. And lawsuits were threatened by Fred although to my knowledge none were ever filed.
If an LDG is of a color other than dark green (not counting the ones which have grotesquely faded from repeated sunlight exposure or guitars that have been repainted a different color and had the LDG re-added) and doesn't have SP under the logo.....they are counterfeits. By the way, any LDG decal that can be flaked or peeled off is also a fake since all legitimate decals were under the finish.

But, what still puzzles me a bit is that mine (& yours, Tommy) is pretty close to the regular LDG color.
But, I have noticed that other green LDG's I've seen seem to have more of an emerald green color, than the darker/browner green that mine is.
My "SP" logo is under the lacquer (as stated by Mr.Green), along with "LDG".
