Is there something special about this guitar that would account for its price? The fact that it was in the Texas Ramblers, maybe? I don't even see knee levers...

I wonder if that's "The Texas Ramblers" that played with Ramblin' Jimmie Dolan or Prince Albert Hunt?

Or the Maverick for $950 without even a picture:

"Sho-Bud's Maverick was intended as a professional-grade pedal steel for the serious student or working player on a budget. " ???????????????

There was a nice article in the Fretboard Journal #18 about Retrofret musical instruments--the same company as Musurgia the best I can tell. Both are run by Steve Uhrik, a good guy and unusual instrument aficionado. I think Rich hit the nail on the head here--NYC prices. Really weird things can be found at Musurgia/Retrofret that really won't be seen anywhere else. Usually priced accordingly, but in the collectors' world, this isn't uncommon or unexpected. It's when a non-rare item like a 6139 or a Maverick comes along that prices get skewed out of perspective.

At any rate, prices aside, they carry some pretty interesting stuff. Steve owns Lefty Frizzell's Bigsby modified J-200 (not for sale). The guy has good taste even if his Sho Bud prices are on the high side!

no wonder the people who win $1200 in 'the cash cab' treat it like a $5 bill....luckily i've never visited new york...and couldn't afford it if i did.

seems like it might be a profitable spot for selling 'medical' marijuana.

I wouldn't be too hard on them-their idea of pricing comes from the vintage guitar world where insane amounts of money are exchanged.
