Amplifier - Evans Hybrid 200 (1960's?)

Modification - 2 Prong Plug to 3 Prong.

Scenario - The amp will pop when anything else in the circuit that powers the amp is switched on or off. For example if a light is turned on that is plugged into the same circuit as the amp it will cause the amp to pop (when the amp is powered on).

Otherwise this is the best sounding amp I have ever had.

It did not due this prior to changing the power cable.

Only thing changes was the power cable. Old cap to ground was removed.

Any ideas?

That's what that cap was there for, to absorb the momentary spikes in the mains line. Adding the grounding pin is a good idea, you just need to replace the cap to ground and you should be in business with a smile.

Mateo - That happens in my little music room at home, with my 1985 Evans FET-500 Custom LV.

hey Lee!

I have a FET 500 LV in the same room and it does not do it.

Dave,

I have disposed of the old cap. What cap do you recommend for this and it should be in parallel with the ground wire?

I suggest reading this article for a better understanding and also the type of caps to use:

Ken,

Would you recommend an across the line suppression filter for my application?

I have never even seen one of these, on all the old amps I see line to ground. Which is what I removed.

You can do that, just use the correct type cap. Read the article and then go hunt for one at Mouser!
