There was a club in Gardena, Ca. owned by Al Royer which was called the "Hitching Post". Back in the 50's and 60's most everyone played there at on time or another (Cornier of Western Ave. and Redondo Beach Blvd). Shorty and his band might have played there. I remember Ed Bacon's singing which was several degrees worse than Fred Maddox.

Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg?

Joe, do you remember Charlie Williams who was a KFOX deejay in SoCal in the sixties? Charlie used to call Bob & Lucille "the Canadian Sweatshirts"........ Do you know if Bob's still alive or not? I haven't heard of them in years. When Lacy J. Dalton first came out with "Crazy Blue Eyes" I though it was Lucille as their voices sounded a lot alike.......JH in Va.
Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!!
Jerry I remember Charlie,I never met him personally he was in the lineup when Cliffie Stone, and Biff Collie and Brad melton all night had the days covered..I went to the Station with Lee Ross (62-63) when lee was working there..I was amazed that that building wasn't condemned...KFOX was the station in the 60s.

Tex Carmen
Tex Carmen was really was a nice person and at one time did some 15 minute live programs by himself on the old KXLA station. The story was that he received more fan mail than anyone else doing similiar programs. Tex did not have the greatest voice but he pretty much sang on key and did not stray to much with meter. When I was playing with Ole Rasmusssen at the old 97th Street Corral, Ole would hire Tex to play the intermissions when the Band took a break. He did not use a Dobro but an old flat top guitar with the high "nut". Tex was deadly serious about his playing and singing and the crowd loved him. I believe Tex was a pure blood American Indian but I never heard what tribe. He had a fan club of Woman Seniors which were always giving him presents including his Western Wear.
Whatever Tex's shortcomings, he knew how to sell himself.
