I agree. I met Jody a short time after I took up the steel guitar in 1953. He impressed me with his playing ability beyond my belief. All I could think was "How did he ever do that"? Well, I was fortunate that Jody took me under his wing and showed me how he did that. I tried it and most of it worked out very nicely, but I was not Jody Carver, I consider him a great friend and a caring mentor. Thanks Jody for all you did for me, inviting me to be your guest at the NAMM shows in NY City where you introduced me to Don Randall, the Fender execs and reps and most of all to Jerry Byrd who was at the Rickenbacker exhibit back in the mid 50's. While I idolized your playing, I was listening to Byrd long before I knew you. What a great lifetime experience for me! (BTW, Jerry remembered meeting me at the Hotel New Yorker back then. What an amazing man he was).
Thanks Jody for all you have done for every steel player. In recognition of you as a true innovator and member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.I hope everyone able will attend the PSGA show November 12th and 13th to hear you play.

I've just received the tentative player schedule from our show coordinator, Jeff De Maio. If you can only attend one of the 2 days, you'll not be disappointed. You'll be treated to the finest steel playing by some of the best in the business on both days. If you can attend both days, then you will experience the ultimate treat!
The sked will be in our show flyer sent by snail mail and we will also publish it on our web site:

The only problem is, they're made by Kirkland! Oy vey! Better off with the 100 hand towels...we can hand them out in the men's room.
That's a joke Jody & I share. Several years ago, Jody attended the PSGA show and I met him for the first time in person.
Well, at this show, Jody met some steel heros that he had never met before. At one point he met John Hughey.....they were introduced in the men's room of all places! Mr. Hughey didn't know Jody's background and thought that Jody was the attendant handing out towels! That's Jody's version. Of course it's hysterical to hear Jody tell the story.
Aside from the music, it's a great venue for old and new friends to meet and have a great time.
You can't lose.
[This message was edited by HowardR on 29 September 2005 at 02:03 PM.]

Jody,
Thanks for the kind words about me and the bump for the PSGA. It is good to see you back on the Forum. I sure hope that is a good sign.
Just a heads up that my Friday, Oct. 7 (next week) "Swingin' West" show will be my annual tribute to the PSGA and the upcoming weekend and I already have a set of Jody Carver already put together to open the second hour of the show.

Funny you should mention Kirkland paper towels. Consumer Reports rated them one of the top brands for quality and cost. All Jody has to do is walk to the rear of the hotel and find the paper towel area in Costco and while there be sure to pick up a supply of the Kirkland batteries, they got a better rating than Duracell. CBS used the Duracell Pro series batteries for the RF mics and the IFB receivers that the talent used. The batteries were used just one time and discarded. When my supply of throw outs ran out several years ago I switched to the Costco brand.
Jody, which steel will you bring to CT for your set(s)?

Jody,
Thanks for the kind words as usual! It is really appreciated! You are not only a great player but you are great with your comments.
By the way, I know your humor perfectly. I read Bob's question about which steel are you playing and I knew after his comments about Kitrkland that you had your cue and you didn't disappoint me.

I understand from a reputable volume pedal manufacturer, that attempts are being made to reach a deal with Costco to design a Kirkland Super Sophisticated Volume Pedal, which will be totally wireless, cable free, require no batteries, use solar power and which will be attached to the cranium (head) of the player. This will enable the player to use 2 feet on the pedals without the afterhtought of having to use his right (or left) foot to accomplish volume swells and effects, just his thoughts about volume etc....
Of course this might be very detrimental in the use of proper technique as we know it today. But progress is very important to steel players.
This device WILL NOT be on display at our PSGA Show on Nov. 12th and 13th, but a lot of other neat products will be: Fessenden and GFI Steel Guitars and the folks from QwikStix who make some of the neatest steel guitar accessories that every steel player should consider owning.
Incidentally, now that Don Adams has passed on, we are seeking to obtain rights to "The Cone of Silence" which will be lowered on any artist who expounds verbally on any subject not related to steel guitar. In other words we are there for the music, not the talk!!
We've had a lot of inquires about the show (especially from non-steel players). We look forward to a good attendance!

Wow, looks like everyone in Norwalk will be in for quite a treat! Wish I could attend - maybe next year.
Hey Jody - we'll have to get on the phone and get your commentary on my show. As a matter of fact, anyone attending the Norwalk PSGA show send me an email with your commentary of the show. Nothing like hearing it first hand!
PS: Jody Carver old? Nah!!!
