I have been working with the Jim Hyatt Band, a variety band, and one of the tunes we cover is The Five Satins' In the Still of the Night. I have always loved "Doo Wop" music, and this tune's melody is a natural for the steel guitar. I'm using both necks on my steel guitar, an old MSA, plus I added some tenor sax (The Horns of Plenty). Here's a link: http://hsga.org/new_design/ChuckLettes.htm
Hope you enjoy the arrangement.

Chuck,
It was "jes' FINE" son. I do believe JB would be proud ah ya, and expecially your rendition of "Adventures in Paradise".
Great job dear friend . May Jesus continue to bless your talents,

Thanks for the compliments, guys. Carl, every note I play seems to have that Jerry Byrd influence, whether it's pedal or non-pedal. Steve, life in Denver is good. This has been a good summer, plenty of work too! I hope to make it to your part of the country some time in April. Hope you are both doing well.

Yes, know what you mean. Since I ate, slept and breathed JB (and LRW) during my informative musical years, I simply play my pedal steel the way I imagine Jerry would have played pedal steel, IF he had ever gone to pedals.
But dang his hide, he didn't!
I even setup my PSG's like I imagine he would have done it. IE: I incorporate all of his slants and split slants in the line up (and set up) of my pedals and knee levers in this endeavor.
Oh well
Again, I love your playing dear friend,

Chuck, I've listened to all your tunes on this site but when you play with your Rickenbacher, the sound is absoletely unbelievable, what effect do you use with this guitar? Can't believe it's the instrument alone...
Best,

Chuck,
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful...that's the way Lawrence Welk might have phrased his appreciation of your rendition. Always great to listen to your music, Chuck. |

Thanks, guys. Glad you like the tune. I guess this song is called "Beach Music" in your (the Southern) neck of the woods.
